Favorite EDC Folder Under $40

Case G-10 Humpback "whittler" (it has three springs, so it's not really a whittler) is a solid and versatile EDC cheapy. Paid $40 on the nose for it. This is the inferior Tru-Sharp stainless version, but you can get 'em in CV for a slightly higher price.

I don't believe any ones mentioned the Ontario RAT-1 yet. Love that knife. Definitely one of the smoothest opening non-assisted knives I've had.

Kershaw Skyline. I can open mine wickedly fast! First I learned with the flipper then I discovered I could zing it open even faster using the thumb stud.

Of the non-SAKs I own, it would be my Ka-bar Dozier folder. Light, sturdy, sharp. What more could you want?

My under $40 collection isn't very extensive, and the Gerber Paraframe doesn't really cut it.

My favorite inexpensive knife is the Vic Alox Cadet. Easy to carry, easy to sharpen, good looking and very practical. I got it on sale, but I would've happily paid full price and then some for it if I had to.

i like the spyderco persistence and tenacious. good solid performers and i love the flat ground leaf style, good control especially on the persistence. couple votes for the leek though i dont think there a $40 knife anymore. last time i checked they run in the 50 n up ranges. though when i bought my leek in 02 i think it was $40. i carried it for 8 years edc and it is a great knife. though in that same price range is the similar sized delica and at the weight difference id probubly now carry the delica over the leek, and do carry a also similar priced endura4. just a bit over the $40 cap. as is the leek. the zing is very interesting and is on my short list. would have to be in the orange though. no longer into multi blade folders like the case shown above, yea its nice, i have one like it. loose it in the pocket easy or if its in my back pocket where its easy to get to its a hard lump to sit on when driving.

It's not here yet but If my Caly3 was any indication, The UKPK lightweight is going to be a great knife for $39.86 shipped.

I'm another Kershaw Skyline fan. The last few days I've been carrying both a Boker Subcom and a Wharcom at different times (I have the Subcom clipped to my waistband as I type)and so far like them too. They are handy enough to forget I have one clipped on, but either one weighs as much as the Skyline.

I have a now-discontinued CASE 31549L yellow-handled large Copperlock, with a 3" Chrome Vandium blade.
Light, cuts well, and easy to carry.
I paid $27 for it, before CASE discontinued the model.

Hard to choose between the Vic Pioneer (20$) and the Kershaw Cyclone (35$ or so...although I paid way more for my first one when they were still in production)

Ontario RAT1 or SAK for now.

I'll add a vote for the RAT-1.
- Smooth opening. (that's an understatement, it opens like an AO)
- Solid locking.
- Great fit & finish.
- 4 way clip (5 if you count removing it completely).
- Good steel that can take an edge (as in hair whittling sharp).
I paid $26 for mine - not many one handed openers can match the RAT-1 for the same money.

For cheaper but without one handed opening my Opinel #8 stainless with walnut handle was only around $12 and is a great slicer.

For less than $50, I can get 2 Byrd folder and wave mod them both. I'd get a p/e Cara Cara and full serrated Crossbill in G10 with steel liners.
