FAVORITE edc............There can be only ONE!!!

Tricky.
In my collection there are some that I think look better, some more stylish, many more expensive, a number with better steels, and a few with more sentimental value. But at the end of the day, the one I find myself carrying more than any other is the Spyderco PE Ti-Salsa.

Let's face it and be brutally honest, it's not going to win any beauty prizes, and it's not as big and impressive as some other knives, but ..... it is small and descreet, but a good handfull, it has a silky smooth lock which also happens to be one of the strongest around, it might not have a super new trendy steel, but it's ATS-34 blade is one of the sharpest in my collection, and whilst it only has a 2.5" blade, it really does cut like a much bigger blade.

I have been switching between my Benchmade 940 and my Spyderco Navigator. I bought a Benchmade 770, thinking this would be the best of both worlds, but instead of getting a regular 770, they sent me a prototype! I don't belive in having knife shaped ornaments, but I do have difficulty using a Prototype as an EDC.

I'm a sick person I know it, but how does one get over the fear of using a prototype?

Whoa! revelation there! :)

Hmmm only one, well the one that has graced my pocket since the day it arrived from Dweikum is the Benchmade 941BC Red handled folder, but as mentioned in other threads, a frame lock is my worry free folder for all times, a Large Sebenza soon to be replaced with a small wood inlay Classic Sebenza...;)

G2

(Onion in a frame lock, does sound nice)

If I could have only one; it would be my small wood inlay Sebenza.

Since I also have a small plain; I don't use the small wood inlay.

It's big, ugly, heavy, worn out 2 sheaths, been reground for a broken tip, reground for sharpening ease, has dings from being used as a hammer, has cut damn near every thing you could think off from me to battery cables, removed hubcaps, scraped gaskets, scared of bad guys, intimidated the Daughters boyfriend and used as a brass knuckle.

I've only tightened the pivot pin once. I can take a 2 inch wide strip of hair off my arm after cutting 5 pair telephone cable.

For the last 22 years my EDC has been a Buck Folding Hunter.

Can't complain at all for $16.95. I got a DDR-II from Santa, since I now work in NYC I'll carry it in a front pocket for speed (just in case) but the Buck is still on my hip.

I would say my large plain Sebenza, especially since I sent it back from CRK with the new Stars & Stripes graphic, but while it was gone I bought a green blade double action MT-LCC, to carry while it was gone, and it kind of grew on me! I'd say the two are dead even for my affections right now. I could be content with either one.

Favourite EDC is since half a year the BM Mini-AFCK made of M2 highspeed! (But the Spyderco Native is great too)

maybe somewhat strange but my fav is the sog X-ray vision. Being an in the field computer/network-cabling guy there are various reasons why I like it:

1. The tanto tip: great for cutting open boxes with hardware stuff. Also nice if you have to punch a hole in something for I don't know what reason.
2. The plain edge straight partvery nice for push cuts. Razor sharp it makes a great tool for stripping wire with a push cut.
3. The serationed part of the blade cuts through anything from carpet to plastic which are very common materials around my workspace.
4. The arc lock seems a very sturdy design and has never failed me.
5. Since hardly ever put lateral pressure on it the zytel handle is just great lightweight and very slip resistant.
6. General sharpness I can get on the edge, although it's ATS-34 it's sharpens quite easy and I get a shaving edge on it which cuts freehanging ropes etc... (something that other brands seem to think only their knives can)
7. Total ambidexterity as I'm a lefty.
8. And when I'm of the job just a great middle-sized self defence tool.

This might not be a big help for you since this knife seems to be great for just my specific situation but thought I'd share it. (I'm a spyderco freak so if I get exited about a non-spydy it's gotta be good

;) )

What do other people think about those reasons ? please let me know...

usually my favorite EDC is the last one I bought because that's usually why I buy. I have several spydercos and SAKs that are all good EDCs, but I can't seem to stop carrying this Mini-grip. This thing is nice. Smooth Axis lock action. Very practical. I guess that would get my vote at the moment

Markd1, I hear ya about that Mini grip, mine has caused my drawer to fill up with now-unwanted knives. My 'ol 556 has been the only knife to really have all the things I look for in an edc.
Brilliant little knife.

BTW, where are my/everyone's avatars?? whats the dilly?

Toss up between a PCC Custom bali with a D 2 drop point blade and a BM Custom skelonized weehawk.

Show off! :p Now that BM is going to make Stainless Steel handles available again; are you going to push for BM to go back to 3/16th steel for the blades now? :D

As I said, at the moment the mini-grip is it for me, but I should add that anything over $50 starts to send me into a conflct as far as edc is concerned. I could never carry a Sebbie and cut open a box with it. I get too consciensous when the thing cost so much. How do u folks get over it? help.

I don't really know myself. I'm struggling over carrying a Benchmade 770 Prototype! Maybe I'll just go out and buy a nice little slipjoint and call it a day! :)

Very, very nice, Gary. It takes a great knife to outrank about 40 or so Sebenzas and another 20 frame-locks. Some people deserve the recognition they get, and Ken definitely does.
