Favorite Fixed Blade for Skinning?

I have a Buck Vanguard in sv30 steel that I thought would be my be all end all hunting knife. After field dressing a doe mule deer I found the edge chipped. Currently using a Becker bk-11 for my antelope and deer work. Still looking for the perfect elk knife.

Are there any custom or semi-custom companies that make a similar version of the Sharpfinger? Bark River maybe? Looks like the current Schrade model is made in China, so I'll pass on that.

I really like the Schrade "Sharpfinger" for Skinning, Here's a Beautiful Custom that's listed In the Knifemakers Fixed Blade section, And It's made on the pattern of the Schrade "Sharpfinger" , Here's the Link,

If you do get an older Sharpfinger I hope to hear what you think of it. Their 1095 is an absolute dream to get and to keep sharp.

I placed two bids on eBay for vintage Sharpfingers with $40 maximums. One sold for +$50. I'm not spending that much for a Sharpfinger. The Keith Willis model looks better, and is custome made. Now all I need to do is find a good leather sheathmaker for it as soon as I get the confirmation that it's mine!

That Keith Willis knife with the osage grip is stunning. I like the design myself and have a Bear and Sons copy.

Thanks. I just replied to his post! :D

Good Deal ! You got a Great Buy on that one, Heck at $60.00 Shipped that little knife Is a Steal, That's the second one he's made In the past couple of Week's, "I'm sure he'll make some more If anyone else Is Interested In getting one contact the maker and see If you can order one".

Have you all seen the Phil Wilson Meadows Skinner knives?! I'm reading up on them. Nice knives with high end tool steel...

Maybe I'm nuts but most of the knives that I use regularly are 1095. It's the perfect steel for my uses.

Nice score.

I have a feeling that you will love it.

I thought about picking up a couple more users. My son Travis wants one for the upcoming season. I did a search on ended auctions, and what I was seeing is the prices are really soft right now, as long as you don't want one with th ebox in mint condition. There were quite a few that sold for 25-35 bucks, that were still good knives. The knives Keith makes are very nice, and well priced too

Well, yeah. There is that.:D
It will take something really special to make me think that 1095 isn't the perfect outdoorsman's steel.

Those Randall 11s are a fantastic design.

So, have you gotten your skinner yet? I'm anxious to hear your thoughts.

Yes, the osage orange sharpfinger arrived. Very nice knife...also very sharp. It will definitely be used on my next hunting trip.

That's good to hear. It's a great design that seems to fit everybody's hands perfectly somehow.
