Favorite Junk Knife

Not going to lie, I kind of dig that design. Like Ray Laconico and Strider had a baby (a lofty description of a $20 knife, I know).

What model number is this?

Looks like the model number is SWCK44CS. There are 3 different versions with this one being the lightest. The other two have steel bolsters to add to the weight.

That looks to be it, thanks.

Np, I used to have one with the steel bolsters, but after my car was towed after a rear ending, it "dissapeared" while at the shop. Only thing I would say if you get it, be careful with flicking the blade out. The lock tends to get stuck with flicks.

I always liked the Scorpious. Too bad I never picked one up when they were still around. I am curious to see what it would look like sheep footed.

Cover your eyes.....

It's not a complete sheepsfoot but i can't think of any other shape that resembles it.

Check out that rad jimping. It's not a pretty knife by any means but it's crazy sharp and my oldest spyderco.

That dosent look too bad. I mean it was the Scorpious. You can't really make it uglier.

I have an Ontario(?) spec something or other machete type thing that I use in the yard all the time. I have cleared brush behind my house with it, dug out tree roots, and many other things that a large, flat, sharpened piece of steel might reasonably accomplish. I sharpen it with a bastard file and I don't hesitate to use it. It also works really well as an improvised chisel. It's actually a really functional tool.

There's a lot of inexpensive knives, and using and liking them gives its own satisfactions!

Opinel of course, genius simple, easy to carry great food knife.

Byrd Meadowlark2 in G-10 a whole lot of decently made knife for not much cash.

A number of Rough Rider slipjoints, amazingly good quality, some pretty patterns as well.

Mora Red handle, need I say more?

Great idea for a thread.

$1 'Ozark Trail' lockback from Walmart.

Junk - There is some blade play when locked, the steel wont take a truely sharp edge, the pocket clip is poorly designed, and the handle is made of super cheap plastic ... but yet it cuts things well enough for 95% of people out there.

Mora 711 for 7.99$

Ugly design, great carbon steel. It's been with me for years slicing and dicing anything from hardwood to hamburger steak.
Undeniably my favorite junk knife I am not afraid of damaging or using.

I've opened more boxes and bags of charcoal with mine than I care to admit. Works just fine in the garden when I go to staking my maters.

Well, it isn't junk, but it did cost me only 7,50 euros. I've got this EKA Swede 60 for years now and it is a favourite. Very easy to sharpen and easy to clean, since you can disassemble the knife with just a simple screw driver or the SAK in your pocket.

Unless I'm mistaken this is the same knife that was sold in the USA in the late 70's-early 80's as a Normark brand. I have one with black scales that has been in my fishing tackle box for over 20 years. I think the lock release on mine is all the way in the back, but I believe they were probably made by the same company.

Looks like the scales are starting to crack near the pivot on yours?

I guess that it depends on what you call a junk knife. Considering that I see knives on site that sell for three to five hundreds dollars, I suppose that most of my blades may be consider junk compared to them. I buy from the common manufacturers. They are effective however and great fun to use. I did receive a freebie folder a few years back as a thank you from my vendor for a multiple blade purchase. It was a United Cutlery ''Ranger'', serrated with a Tanto tip. To me it's a crap steel Chinese made P.O.S. But I still appreciate the gesture and it functions surprisingly well, when it gets it's annual unburying......... It brought a smile to my face when I saw that old Normark Swede. I had them all as a youth back in the day.

Fury chisel grind tanto liner lock. Bought it in 1997 and still gets a fair amount of abuse. I wouldn't trust the lock in severe conditions but I sure got my moneys worth out the POS.

I'll cheat and list two beaters that I like a lot:

* A Moral carbon steel knife. I think it was the "840MG" model on Amazon. Paid about $12 for it, came razor sharp and works great for fine slicing, trimming, and carving tasks. And tougher than you'd think, for something so thin.

* A Gerber LMF. I know these are getting a bad rep around here, but I think that's probably because many of us don't like serrations. Really, for the low price you can get an LMF for, it is one heckuva tough knife and you can do a lot of things with it. Because I don't really care what happens to it, I absolutely abuse it and it's kinda' fun to see how much it can take!

I have one of the older LMF II's when they were made of 12C27 and I have had no issues with the knife.
