What is your favorite knife brand and why?

My personal favorite is Spyderco, Ive owned a few spydercos, and my favorite knife of all time has to be the Spyderco Paramilitary 2.

I love Spydies, because they're scalpels, right out of the box. Not only do they come, very sharp...they are extremely easy to sharpen on any set of v-sticks (Spyderco's Sharpmaker included). They're also very easy for me to open & close, one-handed due to the size of the thumb hole on the Delica, Edura, PM2, & my Michael Walkers'

I love Hinderers because they're built like tanks, easy to open & close one-handed, get extremely sharp, and feel substantial in the hand (That's what she said). Since owning Hinderer's, they monopolize pocket time.

I love my Northwoods knives because of aesthetics, the patinas that deleop with use, ease of sharpening, and they come with slip covers to keep them situated in the pocket right....

I guess I can't say that I have "one" favorite brand.

For modern folders I would have to go with CRK and Spyderco. My reasoning for CRK is the finish and attention to detail, and for Spyderco it would be the ergonomics. My favorite traditional knife brand is GEC because they build great quality knives with a variety of different materials and patters. It's really hard to just choose one!

I don't have a favorite. Every knife brand makes some knives that I love, some knives that I loathe, and many knives that I am indifferent towards. There's no brand I can think of whom I'd say has 10% or more of their product line that I find appealing. There's also no brand or maker with which my customer service experiences have been 100% satisfactory, except for knifemaker Richard Rogers.

I've been collecting multiple years already, and several brands have fallen out of my favor:

Top 5:

1. Opinel: Best $$$, best historical value, best slicer and beautiful handles. Carbon-steel patina is entertaining to earn. Plus the ring-lock is just so simple and elegant.
2. Spyderco: Consistent quality no matter where it's made. Spyder-Hole is best-invention ever.
3. Canal Street Cutlery: USA!!! USA!!! The Half-Moon model chestnut is amazing.
4. Queen/Schatt & Morgan: USA!!! USA!!!
5. Lionsteel: Makes the best hard-use and beautifully machined knives ever.

Buck and Boker have fallen out because of questionable lines coming out of China. Still own a classic Buck 110 in CPM-S30V and the original 112.

Case has fallen out because the last three I picked up have questionable F&F. It's not worth getting unless you like the CV novelty. I only keep a classic trapper in CV.

Zero Tolerance, Cold Steel and Strider have gotten too "tactical" and "bulky" for everything except eye candy. A knife is supposed to slice. If I wanted something bulky, I would have a hammer and crowbar. I own none of my originals. :barf:

Benchmade is too expensive for what it offers. Since Spyderco has put the Ball-Bearing lock into some Golden models, I no longer get Benchmades for the Axis. Only exception is an old Osborne 2, which I still carry.

CRK Sebenza underwhelmed me when I first handled it. My new Gayle Bradley feels just as smooth, for less than half the price. I sold it and bought two Opinel #13. ;)

Spyderco - Sharp, high quality, all around great knives

Opinel - Historical value, functional as well as beautiful

KAI - Kershaw and ZT both make fantastic sharp blades albeit at different price ranges

Condor Knife and Tool - Beautiful tough fixed blades at great prices

If I had to choose one company, it would definitely be Spyderco, because no company rivals them in terms of variety of design choices and overall quality. They’re also really susceptible to modding.

Here are a few of my Spydies: http://imgur.com/a/3UjqR

Other knife brands I like: Enzo, Pro-Tech, Kizer, Al Mar, William Henry.

Is that scale, super-conductor?! NICE!

Don't really have one. I love flippers and spydie holes, so for production knives I guess Spyderco and Zero Tolerance. However, my interests have taken me further and further from mainstream knives, or even "mid-techs" whatever that means.

No favorite brand here either. I like a lot of knives from many different companies. The brand I have the most of is SOG, mostly the older Seki stuff. I dislike most of their current lineup but this illustrates why I have no favorite. A given brand can make some knives I love and others I would never own.

No, it's just Lightning Strike Carbon Fiber (blue and black carbon fiber with silver wires running through), done by Kevin Smock.

I was once quoted an additional $2000 for full length, one piece superconductor scales when I brought up the possibility with a custom maker..

Buck Knives

- Excellent fit and finish
- Best warranty in the business
- Fun to collect
- Faith based business ethic
- Made in USA

Knives that you can feel good about owning, IMO.

To use?

This.

The Opinel #9 and #10 simply out-perform every other knife I own in every way that matters to me in terms of functional use of a pocket knife.

For collecting, either these...

For "you won't find me without this being in my pocket, even on an airplane behind the TSA wall", these (the Leatherman tools, not the Vic):

Kershaw OD2 for Office EDC

Spyderco Delica for non-Office EDC

Becker BK&T for camping and hiking.

I couldn't agree more. My favorite knife is by far the PM2. Perfect for EDC.
