Favorite Lock Type

Personally, Tiranium Frame Lock.

I love them mechanically (the way they operate) and, I trust them the most because the pressure to keep the lock engaged comes from my hands whenever I use the knife. You are always squeezing the lock bar.....

I personally do not prefer liner locks or frame locks, and do not own any, unless you count my Victorinox Trekker.

I like Benchmade's Axis lock and Cold Steel's Triad lock a lot, though I use Benchmades most often.

I think a good old fashioned lock back is perfectly acceptable.

Its not really a big deal for me as I use slip joints or fixed blades more than anything else.

Can we also post our least favourite locks? Worst one in my experience is the lockback on the SOG SlimJim. Damn thing closed on my hand while cutting cardboard, cut my finger to the bone. It was one of my first knives, not a very smart purchase, and ended up in the far end of my knife drawer, never to be used again.

Here, you can see how far the lockback extends, it's quite easy to open it by accident.

As a left-hander my favorite locks are obviously the ambidextrous ones, the AXIS is my favorite followed by the simple back-lock.

Axis lock...flicks out and flicks closed easily.

Ball bearing lock for same reasons but IMHO not as smoothly as an Axis lock

Bali-song...

Worst for me is a frame lock...I hate them

I love me an Axis lock, but only own 1 of them. Go figure. I feel it's one of the best locks out there, as far as consistent lock-up, ease of use, and longevity.

Really, though, I prefer titanium frame locks, due to simplicity, and ease of use. As I'm right-handed, I have no issue with operation. It may actually be more of a material issue, as I can imagine loving a titanium-framed Axis lock, but haven't been able to find one I like, or can afford.

So, I guess I'd say my collection screams titanium frame lock, but my sub-conscious says Axis.

Most all other lock types are good, if done correctly, so I have no negative thoughts toward them. I even find that the twist-ring lock of Opinels are great!

Right now I am really liking the bolt action lock on my sage 3. Its comes super tight out of the box but once you break it in it's real smooth. I don't have any experience with the axis lock yet but being left handed these types of locks really appeal to me.

Axis. Only lock Ive ever had zero problems with. Alot of framelocks and lockbacks are fantastic. Though have had issues with them on some knife models . Ease of use, fast deployment and overall durability choose axis. For unbreakable strength lockback or frame.

In no particular order:

Liner
Plunge/Button
Bolster/Lockback
OTF

Probably the compression and liner locks. I've actually grown to dislike lockback knives since they seem to develop vertical play eventually.

I like most locks except for axis locks or ball locks. I don't like having to pull to release the lock, I'm not sure why.
