Favorite Lock Type

In order: Lockback (because they stay closed so well and lock open very well too), compression, liner (if it's a Military), Axis.

Triadlock for bigger folders, linerlock [ not every company] for edc and eventually axis for playing with knife/edc. Compression lock is good, but here is only few knives with that, all of them ugly or discontinued. But if I must choose one, I'll choose some custom folder with triadlock.

I hate to disagree BUT..........

This is a compression lock, and I would say this qualifies as not discontinued, and most definitely NOT ugly

Legality, convenience, social mores. I find small fixed blades to be primarily annoying, but good on anyone who likes and carries them. Cheaper is pretty much a myth, though. Unless you have a source for S110V fixed blades for $110...
Legality sure, if its illegal to carry one dont. Convenience? Carried horizontally on a belt or IWB I find my fixies way more convenient, ymmv of course. Social mores on fixies is WAY overblown on this board, Ive carried and used a 3.5 inch blade fixed for 7 or so years and never had a negative reaction. And I think if you think the average Joe notices that your knife has a pivot, you are giving him too much credit. Overall size, shape and appearance are much more important to keeping a low profile.
As far as price, there arent a lot of s110v fixies I know of, but a look at D2 prices, and a BK24 is about $50. Equivalent size benchmade folder is $160? Cheapest D2 folder I know of is Kershaw Rake/JYD at $90 ish.

Hard to beat the convenience of tossing a folder in my pocket takes me about a second, maybe two. As for the social mores, location is a huge part of it. I've gotten comments every time I've been out with one on my belt.

Also, the Queen Country Cousin can be had around $40-$45 in D2 and $150 or less will net you a folder in M390, S110V, ZDP-189, CPM-M4, Elmax, CTS-XHP, S35VN. Don't see many fixed blades in those steels under that price. One or two customs pop up now and again with those kind of materials and that kind of price, but I don't know of many, maybe any, production blades that fit the bill.

The Queen is a shorter blade and no where near as thick as the 24, and the same price.
And for sure folders are more popular, and have a greater number of choices but that really wasnt my point. If more people carried small fixies choice would go up and price would go down.

Why are people even seeing your belt knife? I never tuck in my shirts, and even under a tshirt mine are hidden, so maybe that is the difference.

Thanks to vague Ohio laws I may or may not be carrying a concealed weapon if I carry like that.

Also, not to offend, but you're moving the goalposts a bit here. You claimed fixed blades were cheaper, but once you get into steels with high wear resistance that's often not true.

I like frame locks, no particular reason. Maybe it has to do with titanium...
I will say the axis type locks are really fun to play with, and can take a beating.

Never seen custom compression lock before, thanks for pic. It's custom knife, not production edc knife like PM2. And I'm fan of more classic designs in knives, from 90' like Terzuola TTF-1, Model 1 etc. That knife doesn't speak to my taste. Spyderco Tenacious or Starmate with compression lock and M390, that would be something good.

Quick research, that's nice, more simple, pure:

I dont live in Ohio, so dont know the laws. Out here, under 3.5 inches fixed or folding is legal concealed and I can carry a bastad sword or an AR15 openly no problem to the grocery store. Not that I would.

I didnt set the goalposts at high wear resistant steels when I said that, and made my point with D2 (I think) which is a good egde holder that you actually can find in production fixies. But, if you want to compare prices on custom fixed vs custom folders in S110v Im pretty sure the fixies are going to be cheaper on the whole too. For me, my hardedge knives at 61 hrc in 1095 almost never needs sharpened ( and was like $60 made to my specs, I think I caught him just up from a nap), my becker 14 has been bomb proof (hammered that lil bastard, with a hammer, through more wood than a beaver eats in a lifetime), or my rat1 (I do carry folders too) have covered my EDC needs so well I dont need a super steel. Plus I like to sharpen I guess. Though after re-beveling and stropping my hardegde knife, I havent touched that one to stone. 1095 at 61 hrc is no joke.

Really like the compression lock, but I am a sucker for a TI frame lock

You made a positive claim about fixed blades being cheaper, and it's just not a claim that I see any evidence for when you compare like to like.
I'm glad to hear that the 1095 is working well for you, personally I cut lots of cardboard and low alloy carbons just don't have the abrasion resistance to hold up. Of course you can find some very nice 1095 blades in quite a number of traditional folders if it works well for you. Many of them are quite inexpensive.

Titanium frame lock. 1st
Protech Whiskers magic bolster lock is pretty damn cool

D2. Done. Proofed. Sorry. Try 1095 at 61 hrc- if its harder than what you are cutting it doesnt really wear the edge down. Works really well for me cutting a lot of the same stuff- but if you do t want to carry a fixed I dont really give a good goddamn. Your Manix is a hell of a knife.

And I immediately countered with a D2 folder that's less expensive or the same price.

And seriously, if you like small fixed blades, more power to you. I'm happy that there are people carrying knives no matter what kind.

Your BK24 is no slouch, either. ;)
