Favorite Patterns

I'm a fan of the Peanut, which I have a few examples.

I also like the equal end cattle knives, of which I own zero. I'm really hoping GEC does one with the 35 pattern..... all the used ones are too valuable or not quite right for me to buy. I just want a good nice long pull spear main, sheepfoot, and pen or spey knife that I wouldn't feel guilty for using..... some day.

Course, the sak has a hefty following and is considered traditional. I have a tinker model myself. It’s a right handy thing to have around. I didn’t see mentioned I’d you have a SAK, If not, you should have at least 1 I think.

What’s the model number on the large single blade trapper, bottom right. Is that the 43, or is the slightly smaller ones shown 43s?
In the Right Hand column going down :
83 LB , 83 LB , 74 , 73 , 73 LL , 72 LB , AND 43

In the Left Hand column going down :
83 LB , 74 , 74 , 74 , 72 LB , 23 , 23 , 23

Thanks for taking the time to answer my query Harry. It’s helpful seeing them like that for me. The 43, I think would fit me best. Maybe with a medium stockman companion.

I would like to congratulate you on having the coolest name and avatar picture. Well done.

Actually carried mine today for the first time in 10-15 years. It was nice to throw it in the pocket and carry that thing on my mail route.

The 43 is a nice size if you like a good handful at 4 &1/4 inches . I have carried a 73 Stag and 83 Dark Brewed Jigged Bone more than all the others put together , but then again I have chosen to keep most of them as Safe Queens . I wish you all the luck in the world in finding and trying any of those trappers .

Good point, I apologize. I'm so used to seeing people think sheepsfoot and lambsfoot are the same thing that I missed your clarifying comments.
No worries, it was just me being grampier than I should have been. My post could have been clearer I think.

Jumbo stockman, senior stockman way out in front, I like the Schrade old timers. Rigging knife (with marlinspike) after that. Got a couple medium stockmans too.

The three traditional patterns that appeal to me the most are the Lambsfoot, Case Peanut, and Sodbuster Jr.
That said, my current favorite is my Northwoods Fremont Jack ;)

One of my favorite knives I’ve ever had was a tree brand Boker stockman with lots of wear and broken tip of the main blade. I whittled with it and carried it a lot. It was swapped to me by a friend. I decided to gift it to his son, because it had been the friend’s moms knife. Why it was sentimental to me I don’t know, but it started a love affair with stockmans.

I think I’d like to regrind the sheepsfoot into a wharncliffe on a jumbo stockman, and replace the spey with a punch.

I purchased a 23 recently. Had to let it go, too big for my liking but I am seriously considering the gec produced remington knife. Seems like just a shrunken down 23. Im sure Gec also makes a smaller trapper but I really like the Bullet knives.
Here's a photo comparing the GEC-made R7352 against a 14, 71, and 65 in case it helps provide reference (the range of what I currently have):

It's definitely the weightiest of the four - in a good, solid way - and the jigging is spectacular. I think I prefer having a single blade personally so I've only admired it, but let me know if I can provide different angles/details.

Thanks for the photo. That is perfect. I will own one of those. Hopefully.

My first lambsfoot. This has to be one of the best bargains in traditional knives. Fit and finish is not perfect but I would consider it good. Perfect pull and snap, few gaps, perfect lock up with no blade play, and not to mention it looks great. This knife is stout and seems like it would make a perfect edc and work knife. Not familiar with the steel but Im assuming its a solid carbon steel that is similar to 1095. What a great knife. Its going to be hard for me not to order the other handle material varients.20220721_114723.jpg20220721_114650.jpg20220721_114639.jpg
