Favorite Quotes from non-knife people.

I was doing some home repair work at somebodies house that I've known since we were both in elementary school and I said "check out my new knife",and I showed it to him and he said "I don't like weapons".

Ugh. I had a client (I do home repair and remodels) ask me to remove the excess rubber flashing from the edges of a door. This was an extra, had nothing to do with the kitchen remodel I was working on. So, I 2-hand opened my Caly 3, and started cutting.

While I was cutting, she fearfully asked why I had a knife, and why it was "such a big" knife, and started backing up. Never mind the hammers, pry bars, nail guns, circular saws, hand saws, chisels or battery Sawzall with the 8" metal and wood demo blade with big sharp teeth. The 3" blade knife was obviously a dangerous weapon, and not a tool.

I'm always careful to not flick open knives as it really seems to scare a lot of people, and if somebody looks like they need a knife, I will always ask first. If I get a positive answer I will usually hand it over closed. That's been working really good so far, and I have virtually no negative experiences so far. And this is in a country with extremely strict knife carry laws.

The question I get most often is actually "how do you close this?". I'm astounded by how many people who can't seem to figure out a normal lockback or linerlock. You would think that the operation of such a simple mechanical device would be pretty self-evident, no?

Had a discussion with some people who told me they do not like knives. They stated they did not like weapons... I told them they are not weapons they are tools and that they are not any different from a screwdriver, pliers, or a wrench... They both sat there silent for a minute then replied... "Well we don't like those either..." I was absolutely stunned...

So you actually got them to say, with a straight face, that they disliked tools like screwdrivers and pliers? That's just too precious.

I have carried some sort of knife, from junk dime store blades in my youth, to Sebenza's, Hinderer's, and other mid-price knives, my entire life. The only time I dont have a knife in my possession would be when I am undressed.
I have been married to the same woman from 25 years who is fully aware of my knife habit and carrying ways.

And it still irritates me when she has something she needs cut. She turns and says thoses words that make me see red almost...."Do you have a knife on you?" lol

And yes, I have given her knives to use. She wont. I think she could cut herself with a butterknife.

My friends stopped asking me a long time ago if I had a knife and now ask me if they can use one of my knives......it took me like 3 years before they realized that I am never without a knife

I hope that day comes for me. I had one of my best friends ask me if I had a knife last week :(

I should have said no, I have three - which one would you like?

Not a knife quote, but... This happened to me today.

I went to Wal-Mart to buy some ammo ( taking advantage of a tax free weekend ). I went to the sporting good counter and asked for a box of .380. She asked which .380 I wanted, and I replied that I wanted the Winchester 100 round box. 1 box. ONE box... The guy next time me said "Who are you mad at?". *sigh* Even better... I tell the guy that I'm a firearms instructor and that I need ammo to practice with. He tells me that he's a retired sheriff's deputy!

*grumble*

I had a coworker pick up my esee 4 off my table as I ate my apple and look down the edge.

"I can see how sharp it is dude." is what she said.

Whenever I visit my folks my mom always says "It's always so obvious you don't live here anymore because the knives don't stay sharp"

I just finished sharpening a user zaan I got here on the forum. A friend came by and tested the edge with the pad of his thumb and cut himself. As he bled he yelled to me, that thing is "stupid sharp!!" sigh...

Yesterday I was helping my friends gramps on his boat. He needed to open one of those plastic cases that are impossible to open so he told his grandson to go get him some scissors. I said hey just use this and I hand him my manix 2 lightweight and he drops everything and said hey man were all friends here. At first I thought he was joking and he kept staring at the knife. So then I just casualy put it back in my pocket and leave. That was probably one of the most awkward moments of my life

Most people I associate with have no problem with knives, or it could just be where I live (Ohio, USA). Guys at work are amazed on the edge you can get even on a cheap knife with the right tools. They are always asking to use my tenacious to cut something.

After reading through numerous posts in the thread I didn't see the "you're going to cut your finger off" line. It's the one I get the most.

This is kind of fair. My roommates and girlfriend will no longer use my kitchen knife: they've cut themselves too many times.

My girlfriend, who has worked on fishing boats, bartended, and used to EDC a Leek manages to cut herself every other time she uses one of my folders.

I guess it's just an EDC thing.

I hand my opinel to my cousin to cut his parcord after finishing up a braclet. I tell him careful it's sharp, he says "I know." Then he decides to cut the parcord with his thumb on top pushing it into the blade. He jumps and I ask if he cut him self he says yes but he "cut him self on the handle";) on the same thumb he pushed into the blade.

Yah I was pretty shocked... I think some people when confronted with reality will grasp at whatever half @ss reality they have concocted to be able to save themselves from the mental explosion in their small minds called truth.... Or maybe I'm wrong? Hold on let me check.... Nope... still right.

Was watching my father in law cut up some potatoes for the grill during a party. He was using a VERY dull kershaw leek. (no offense to this knife because I love them!) It was obvious he was struggling so I handed him my Mora Clipper. Which might as well be a straight razor. He proceeded to cut up potatoes and talking and next thing I know he accidentally laid open his thumb... His wife being an EMT got it all patched up. He told me (Jokingly I think) he was doing just fine before I gave him that sharp thing. (In all honesty he might as well have been trying to cut the potatoes with another potato with how dull that leek was.) Next day I asked him how it was. He told me "It's doing real good! it's almost all healed up! that's whats good about a sharp knife... clean cut. Easy to heal." I sharpen all his work knives now so we are good. :)

That makes me want the spyderco ultra fine rods for the sharp maker even more. I strop after the "given" fine rods, but I hear there is a "given presence" with the ultra fine ones. I've heard people say that its worth it to buy them because the sharp level. "I haven't bought them yet"
