In Spyderco's fixed blade category there was one model known as the SPOT which had a small blade but the Micarta Version of the SPOT was extremely ridgid. It also was one fixed blade that didn't stand out like most fixed blades do.
Another fixed blade that probably wouldn't qualify as a small Spyderco blade but the STREET BEAT sure is a super handy little fixed blade with a Micarta handle as solid as a rock and with a VG-10 blade steel will do just about anything a bigger blade can do.
In many ways Spyderco is the undisputed king of small blades
Has been the Dfly 2 for a couple years, recently dethroned by the Techno. They actually compliment each other nicely. My "big" knife is a CF Chaparral.
I just got the Air and I really like this little knife. The M4 blade came razor sharp. It can really shred the paper. The ergonomics and the smoothness of the opening mechanism are also top notch.
Based on all the replies, it sounds like I will also have to add the Techno at some point.
My small favorites are the mini-dyad and the colored salsas. I usually carry a red one and got my wife a pretty blue one that matches her car. She's quite fond of it and it gets a lot of complements even from non-knife people.
Well, I just got my first Meerkat, and I gotta say I'm digging the phantom lock. Kind of reminds me of the bolster release on some double action automatics. Its got nice ergos too, and looks totally non-threatening.
It was the PE ladybug until I lost it. Now I'm hoping that the PE Dragonfly will be my next fav (since I already ordered it). The Meerkat is nice and carries deep, but is relatively heavy.
Pingo. Great steel and great fit and finish. If I'm not mistaken, I think they may be made at the LionSteel factory in Italy. Wish it locked, but I don't mind that the spyder hole is useless.
Does a Salt 1 qualify as small? It's the only small Spyderco I have these days. It's my go to knife for snorkeling, Scuba and travel to places I'm afraid I might lose something more costly. Lightweight and compact enough to clip into your swim trunks and forget it's there.
Equally divided between the Dfly, Chaparral, Native, Air, and the Kopa. I kick myself for selling the CF Kiwi I had, I really miss that knife.
Edit: the fully serrated Cricket
