I got the Sodbuster Jr with black delrin scales and the stainless steel blade, but I have some issues. The handle is fine, nice and comfortable, but the blade had a horrible edge. Small nicks all through out the edge. According to the ebay auction, it was a mint, never used or sharpened knife, so I'm wondering if that is normal? Overall I love the knife, though. The handle and blade size are great!

Edit: After getting a good sharp edge on it, this thing slices great. The blade is a perfect size, and it skinned and cut an apple beautifully.

Up until now, I've only had tactical type folders, or cheap Winchester or gas station slipblades. Well, today I received a Case Sodbuster Jr. with stainless blade and black (not yellow, sorry :D ) delrin handles. I'm used to knives with 3"+ blades, so I was a bit curious as to how this one would perform. As it turns out, I love it.

Right from the get go, the "mint, never used or sharpened" knife had a quite bad edge. Small nicks on the entire length of the cutting edge, not even close to being shaving sharp. Luckily, it only took a short while on my sharpmaker to bring it up to snuff. The 40 degree setting worked very nice, and the blade took a nice, shaving sharp edge in no time.

What surprised me was the cutting ability of this relatively small blade. There is not much metal behind the blade, and it cuts awesome! It skinned and sliced an apple with nearly no resistance, and it shouldn't rust or anything thanks to the stainless. It slices paper easily, string has almost no resistance, and paracord 550 is an easy job. The blade is a very good size, not big or too small.

The handle is quite comfortable. My pinky just makes it around the handle, and it has a great shape. The delrin seems like a good material. The backspring is decently tight, and while it doesn't open quite as smoothly as I'd like, I'm sure a bit more oil and some more openings will smooth it out. One thing is that it is not even close to centered. As a matter of fact, it looks as if the blade is actually hitting the liner a little bit near the tip on one side...

Overall, for the $25 or so shipped I payed, this is a GREAT value. I'm definitely going to have to add some more slipjoints to my collection.

I'll get some pictures later today.

Careful Brutus013! Soddies are a slippery slope. I got my first one 2 months ago, now I have 4. Just started feeling the need for an "Eye Brand" I noticed on EvilBay too.

Is there a way to change how the blade is centered? If the blade were just a bit more centered, I'd be completely happy with the knife.

They'll get off center a bit. Sometimes if you bend the frame lightly to the side opposite where it's off center it will center the blade more. Try it gently and see the effect on the blade. Don't sweat it however. It's a using knife, not an investment in fine art. ;)

I wouldn't mind it if was just a bit off center, but this is basically touching the liner.

These Soddie's are adictive . Haven't found any for sale locally here in any of the stores ( well unless you want to pay retail + 20% at the 1 store I never buy from ).

Today Lowe's got some in , friends were snapping them up , you would have thought they were Bose's ;)

Yeah , I bought another , I mean who can pass up a Black SODBUSTER JR for $17 ?

This might be the first knife pattern I have multiples of and begin collecting all the diff brands

My favorite Sodbuster isn't a Sodbuster at all, but my GEC #73 Beavertail Scout. At 3-7/8" closed it's halfway between a Soddy and a Jr., fits my hand well, and is a nice, quality knife. The blade profile is very Sodbusteresque, and the handle shape is about right, so I'll call it a high class Soddy. Ok, it has a bolster, but that doesn't bother me. ;)

Well, at least you were partly right...;)

A custom sodbuster. Hope to provide more details soon. Being a big tease I blacked out the maker's name. :D

Got a Kissing crane Soddie with 3-1/4 inch blade. Locks up very tightly. I like the tradtional-ness of it with nice wood and carbon steel blade. Hard to come by a slip joint that is as good for the price. I like the Case's very much, but prefer the cost of my Kissing Crane. Mine was made in Germany, newer ones now being made in Italy. Quality hasn't dropped off at all.

I wasn't impressed at all with the Italy-marked KC "Coal Miner" (black handled Sodbuster) I recently got. I especially did not appreciate the injection-molded handle, nor the enclosed backspring. It makes it look and feel like one of those $2 checkout stand knives.

I'm growing more fond of my Lrg Eye-Brand Soddie. I still love my Case 2138.

My latest aquisition, a Tree Brand Large Soddie (Argentinian) is interesting. The fit and finish were poor but once I adjusted the pivot for bladeplay and put a decent edge on it I found it to be an ideal hard use work knife. Holds an edge forever and best of all I don't mind handing it off to someone who asks for a knife;). For the price, I'm very happy with it. Now if I could just get my Case stainless Jr. back from the factory I'd be set for weekday and weekend EDC.

...oops, forgot I had this too....Rough Rider, and as far as I can tell it's put together just as good as my other one....it's a liner lock too.

Well done! That looks a lot like the pouch that came with my large Moore Maker sodbuster, only nicer.
