Favorite Stockman pattern?

Jon, the #9 is hard to beat. Here is an older one in the white or natural stag bone, still with D2.

Definitely my favorite pattern and most-carried pocket knife. I have three and love them all. It would be difficult to choose just one as my favorite. The Case 6375 large Stockman is a big, robust workhorse for sure. The #81 Northfield in African Blackwood is probably the one I'd choose if I had a gun to my head. I also have a #66 Calf Roper in blood red bone that's a beauty and very pocketable at 3.5".

Love a Stockman myself. My favorite to EDC is the Case 47 pattern, my sentimental favorite is the Buck 301 from the Camillus contract era. OH
Ps nice collection Frank!

My favorite pattern. Serpentine with square bolsters. A high riding sheepsfoot is a plus for me also.

I like 4-bladed stockman knives of various types. I carried the red handled Henckels stockman for several years, and I really love the pattern. The long slim 4th blade comes in handy in many situations.

Now I am giving the yellow handled Robert Klaas knife a try. I'm not sure that it is technically a stockman pattern, but I think that might be what it is most closely related to. I am finding that I am missing the spey, sheepfoot, and long slender blades of the Henckels a little, but the small clip, pen, and hawk bill blades of the Klaas have been useful as well.

I will probably pick up the Rough Rider stockman with a cap lifter to include in my small collection of 4-bladed stockman knives.

...
In a slightly bigger knife, the GEC #53 Cuban is an all-time favorite, this one in bark ram's horn.
These carry so much smaller than their size would indicate, because of the round bolsters and low-lying blades.

Wow, that's nice! I don't have any equal end stockmans (stockmen?), but I want one, now. :D
….

+ 5K :thumbup::D

Heck of a lineup there, Frank.   Deciding that you want to carry a stockman on a particular day just opens a whole new set of problems when you have that many great options. :D

+ 5K. I really like your Bucks, but that sowbelly of yours is fabulous, Frank!:thumbup:

I tend to like "medium" stockmen, rather than the 4" and bigger. I have a Rough Rider sowbelly that I find surprisingly hard to ignore, and although in principle I claim to prefer rounded bolsters over square, I have an old Schrade USA 34OT (from davek14) that's often spinning on my desk!

I gave away this Case 6347HP from 1975, and this Schrade Walden 834, and this Schrade 887UH. I wanted to like them. I really did. They were just too big for me.

I like the Schrade IXL Stockman as well.

The Frontier Powderhorns are cool too.

Great knives in this thread!
Square bolster vs round. I find myself liking the look of square bolsters more, and I actually prefer the square bolster in hand, but I prefer rounded bolsters for my pocket. And since my knife spends most of its time in my pocket, I guess that decides it for me--

I find the square bolsters to be very pocketable. The 81 I have is 4 inches and I have adapted to the larger size. It used to be 3 1/2 to 3 5/8 size was all I needed. but after using the 81 for food prep I find the extra blade size to be a bonus.

Case 6318

I like the Spey blades on Case the most. The more rounded tip with the cutting edge works better on these vs others. That helps you hold the knife more naturally when cutting calves (and gives me more control over the knife).

Some of the older guys will put some jewelers rouge on their chinks to strop their knives during brandings (where you cut calves).

Any time you have a knife that is too big for your mitts, or pockets, remember, I have big pockets and hands!......That is all!

As for my favorite stockman, I have a real affinity for the cigar stockmans, especially the Cattle Barron pattern.

I have not owned one, but they are fantastic looking. I love a stockman with at least one pinchable blade (I don't mind if it is the sheepsfoot, or a pinchable main).

My one and only stockman right now is a lovely Schrade 80T (new old stock). I won it in a giveaway and immediately desecrated the package, and dropped it in my pocket!

Here it is with my grandpa's barlow I inherited. This was taken a few weekends ago, at my Grandma's 100th party!

My dad came over to watch the big game. He brought his old Jumbo stockman. He bought it when I was very little, and got me and my brother 80T's.

I need to get me a cattle barron, or at least a cigar stockman.

Here is Grandma holding Grandpa's western barlow at the 100 Birthday party.

I had the new to me stockman in my hand. (you will have to forgive grandma, she fell out of her bed the morning.

My favorite is the Case 6318 followed by the Case 6375. I'd carry the 75 all the time, except at times it's just too big, so I wind up carrying a 6318 most of the time.

Now that's a stockman right there. Very nice. I've often wondered how they filed the liners like that.
