Ladies and gentlemen, we have a winner......

Just a gorgeous piece of cutlery

Gev -

That Schrade-Walden is incredible. I could stare at that jigging for hours.

While it's an unconventional frame for a Stockman configuration, I really like the #62 Maverick:

Stockman. Many from which to choose. Here are some of mine:

I'm partial to a stockman with rounded bolsters.
This Camillus is one of my favorites:

But this Case Sowbelly has taken up residence in my pocket for the last several months and now I seldom carry anything else:

Frank,
A fine looking group. I especially like the green jigged bone specimen.
Here are mine.

The sowbelley followed very closely by the 47 series Case then a very close third is the serpentine cattle king size stockman...

I have a few stockmen I regularly carry, mostly Old Timers. My favourite pattern though that could be considered a variation of a stockman is this old Imperial cattle knife. The main spear blade is pitted, but still shiny, and the blades appear unused. Nice wide sheepsfoot blade and the steel takes a wicked edge.

My favorite is the Case 6318, a medium stockman. I've carried one since I was 17 and have used it for absolutely everything. It's held up and looks great. It's not too big on the pocket but not so small you can't handle it, has nice rounded edges so it doesn't dig into your leg when you carry it, and it's not so big it sends folks running if you use it around the office. I've carried the SS version for years, because that's what the store had in stock when I bought the first one, and I didn't know any different. I've picked up a CV version in the last few weeks. It's certainly a nice knife and seems to take a good edge, but I'll bet I'll be back carrying the SS version soon enough because I'm not so hip to keeping up with oiling the CV blade, and feel the SS takes a plenty-sharp edge.

Welcome aboard Strawboss37! I've had quite a few of those 18 pattern Cases great little stockmans they are!

Hey, thank you. Like you, I've got quite a few of them, because I picked up knife fever somewhere.:p. When I was young and broke, I had just one, and that worked just fine. Now I grab new ones time to time as they strike my fancy, including several other 6318s, Sodbuster Jr's, jacks and lockblades. Time again, though, I end up going back to that original stockman after a couple weeks.

Welcome Strawboss! I agree with you. The 6318 is probably my favorite Case out there. Here's my 1976 6318hp. I thought about grabbing another one I like it so much.

KBA, That's a really great looking Case. With as many different and interesting colors and patterns as Case offers, I still wish it was easier to find scales with that good, solid, reddish-brown bone color like yours.

My Case, Purple Haze large Stockman arrived in the mail today, and I took it to work for some use.
Great knife, I enjoyed it... I've had a medium Stockman, i like it, but I wanted to try this large one.
This is a big knife, bigger than my Trapper and also bigger than my Northfield Big Jack.

An updated pic... (you know they multiply if you leave them in the drawer by themselves.)

Got a new one in my pocket that didn't make it into the group pic. A Case CV with punch instead of spey blade.

Serpentine with round bolsters ala my Camillus #69, those square CASE bolsters look ugly to me but not as ugly as a sowbelly.

I also need a long clip point as I use the sheepsfoot for my rought cutting so I don't need a short beefy clip point. I have a CASE-Carhartt large Stockman but don't care much for such a wide sheepsfoot but I can certainly see the use of one for those who may do a lot of carpet cutting and such. I also prefer a short Spey blade rather than a long one such as on a Trapper pattern.

I have a few favorites to choose from:

THe Case Humpback (046) is my favorite stockman pattern and this one in particular finds its way into my pocket more than any of the others because it was a gift from my son.
