So I bought a knife from a site called krknives.com, but it's a back order that still hasn't arrived. I've never heard of this site before, never dealt with it, so my gut is telling me to file a paypal dispute to at least assure my $ for 30 more days past the 45day period.

Just want to know from other members, if you were in this situation what would you do? I feel I am correct to assure my money, however I don't want to piss off anyone and just have my money refunded without getting the order I placed. Regardless, as a customer I feel that if they are a legit business they'd understand my paranoia and won't think much of the dispute since I can cancel it at anytime or once I receive my stuff.

Your thoughts?

First, I'd contact the company itself if I were you, if you haven't done so already. Since you bought a knife that they told you was backordered, it's obviously going to take more time than usual for you to get it because the company didn't have any available to ship out at the time you bought it.

If you contact them and you feel they are screwing you around, make darn sure to file a paypal dispute before the period is up.

Interesting you bring it up... I'm STILL waiting for my pre-ordered Spyderco Millie in fluted Ti. I emailed the owner and he said Spyderco was slowly filling the orders, but this was almost two months ago. I paid up front with paypal, but I'm considering asking for my money back. Sorry to thread-jack but it's a related issue I guess. Anyone know if Spyderco is still filling orders for these?

Same issue actually gsp, so it's fine. I contacted them recently and they said they expect them by late June to early July but yea anyone in the know please contribute.

If it helps, GP Knives has the estimated delivery of their fluted millie's for 7-15-11. So, they are probably about right with with the time frame.

Bad idea to pay up front on a pre-order. Did PayPal actually take funds from you? If not, no need for a dispute.

So just to update and provide info to anyone who will purchase from this company. I started a dispute on the last day of my 45day coverage on paypal (Yesterday 6/20/11). Told them basically since I've never ordered anything from them and since they made me pay upfront for a pre-order item that I was starting this dispute knowing that I could drop it at anytime within 30days or once my item was received.

Today KR contacted me saying that this was bad business! That they had used my money to purchase my item, and gave me an ultimatum of 4pm PDT to drop the dispute or they'd cancel my order.

Obviously they're breaking the law already, and if you cancel a dispute with PayPal you can't reopen it. It's possible they don't have criminal intent, but ...

If you had any issue with my company you should of contacted me first! It is bad business to order something then turn around and ask for your money back until you receive something that has not even been released yet. My company has to pay the distributor for all the knives that are pre ordered. As i said you file a dispute and take back the money that was there to purchase your knife and said you would hold the money until your knife arrives. How many companies out there are going to say please pay us after you receive your knife??

Instead of talking bad about a company you know nothing about . why not send an email with your concerns. You handled this all wrong. so here are your choices.you can cancel the dispute and receive the knife as soon as it arrives or I can refund you the money asap. It does not look good with paypal when you get disputes!

Your Order Was refunded. Next time try contacting the business before filing disputes . to everyone else reading this. K&R is a reputable Company . Thank you.

Well I haven't opened a dispute on anything, I'm going out on a limb here and waiting to see how this plays out since there are other retailers who havent yet gotten their fluted Militaries.

I have several items on pre-order from other sources and they never charge until the item is in their possession and they can ship it to me, they charge as soon as they ship. They have my information, and I have already submitted an order form with them, which basically is my intent and promise to pay. You did the opposite, hence I didn't know what you were doing.

You can say I overreacted but I did what was best to make sure I defend my interests which is my money. You pinned me into a corner. Giving me an ultimatum to either drop my dispute or loose my order and if I do that, I loose the possibility of getting my money if you so decide not to ship. is that a way to treat a customer?
So what am I to do? Basically resign myself to your will?

The only reason this thread is here is because I wanted to see if this was a situation any members had faced before and if this was common.

I think the greatest disservice done to your company is your response. Ultimatums are rarely productive.

Interesting discussion. I have done many pre-orders both prepaid and after shipment. If an item is sold as a "pre-order" the manufacturer or distributor is in the driver seat as when the merchandise will be shipped.

I prefer prepayment because I know the knife is paid in full. Credit card companies and especially PayPal are draconian against the merchant if the buyer has a problem so I am willing to take the small risk. It is quite satisfying to deal on a hand shake level much like members buying and selling on this forum.

We need to take care of knife sellers so they can take care of us or soon they will be gone.
