I like Pinnacles but it is a well developed area. When I was there you were camping right alongside a bunch of other people. Not much wood around the camp areas and I doubt they want you scrounging it. It would not be my top choice for this sort of outing.
On the other hand, when we were camped at one of the walk-in Pinnacles camps, the group next to us was called "Women in the Wilderness". They were there for rock climbing training. Several of them were even straight---not that my pal and I had any luck making friends.

LolThe Pozo-Lapanza area in the Santa Lucia Wilderness, East of San Luis Obispo, also indicates some undeveloped, primitive camping areas. Maybe Mike or someone else in Central CA has been by there or to Machesna and can comment?

P.S. Since there are so many people in the Bay Area, we could probably carpool. That would help some of the guys with limited transportation options make it.
If Sasha thinks mid-April and cooler weather would be better for bugs, how about
April 18? People with a flexible schedule could head out a day or two earlier.
