Fenix TK40 Passaround

Thanks for posting your review, crm3137. I was about to chase you down! :D

So, I have a little more time to share my thoughts on this light now.

This is one of the coolest lights I have seen!
I like just about everything about this light.

Size wise, I like it, not to big yet big enough to feel substantial. I was able to put it in a pocket of my fleece vest and zip it closed. It also fit fine in the back pocket of my jeans. I didn't mess with either the lanyard or shoulder strap, I would think that the lanyard has more practical applications than the shoulder strap though.

I found the multiple levels to be very handy. I usually keep two lights on me when I'm camping. One lower powered light for finding suff in the tent or packs without blinding myself, and a bright one for spotting stuff at a distance. The four levels on the TK40 filled both of those needs and more.
The lowest level was just right for use in the tent/packs and to get to the bathrooms. (We were camping in a formal campground in a national park)
My son and I went for a walk after dark one night and the lowest level was just right to see our way out of the campground without bothering anybody else. When we got a little ways out of camp the next level was used to see a little more of the trail we were on. About half way through our hike we heard something up on the hill to our left. Bam! Full power was used to spot a couple of deer. This is by far the brightest flashlight I have ever used. Lots of throw, yet a nice usable amount of side spill.I could see using this as my main light when camping.

I also like that this uses AA batteries, I already have a bunch of eneloops for our cameras.

About the only problem with this is I thought that the instructions could have been worded and organized a little better.

Thanks again to everyone who set this pass around up.

Sorry I didn't get any pic's, someone managed to leave the camera on the dining room table when we left to go camping.:o

I'll get this to the post office tomorrow.

I have offered to proofread anything that the manufacturers I deal with write in English, but Fenix was obviously not one of the ones to take me up on my offer. :)

I dropped the light off at the post office today so it's on the way.
I did charge the batteries before I sent it out so you can try it out with no waiting:D

Hey guys, I wanted to give you all a heads up that I am running a 10% off special using coupon code june10 for anyone that is on the fence about the TK40. The code is good for 10% off your entire order and was set to expire tonight, but I'll extend it a few days.

Thanks for the coupon offer storl; a few more pennies saved and a TK40 will be on it's way to me. I've actually started to miss having it around! It is one flexible and convenient flashlight. The review from candlepowerforums is very impressive.

I might have to order one before I actually get the passaround one. At this point, after seeing the other reviews, I am sure it won't dissapoint. Now, I just need to make up my mind whether or not to get a LD10 or a LD20....then my conversion to AA only camping/backpack gear will be complete. Come on payday....get here already!

Well, you can always add more batteries to an LD10 when they die, but you can't take away batteries from the LD20 to get a smaller size. The LD20 is a bit brighter, but the LD10 is still pretty good brightness for camping/backpacking.

I use my LD20 a lot when I'm out walking my dog in the park at night. People are usually pretty shocked when they see how bright it is. Some kids once asked, "Mister is that just a flashlight?"

Now 630 lumens, holy crap, that might not even be legal here

Does anyone know if there is a holster that will fit this light?

Yeah, there are some out there. I have one for a Wolf Eyes HID light that fits it pretty well. Brigade Quartermasters has about a million sheath options, so I bet they would have one that fits.

I've had a few people ask me to extend the coupon, so I went ahead and made it good until the end of June. Last time though, I swear. :)

Alright, I had the light for about a week, and in that time I got pretty well aquainted with it. I am not very well-versed in the ways of flashlights, so I guess these are some thoughts from a little different perspective. The light was pretty easy to figure out, especially considering my background with lights. It was straight forward, just one button. It didnt take long for me to figure out all of the features that the design encorperated, including the SOS mode, the strobe(ish) setting, and the different brightness levels. I didnt really think that this was going to be a realistic tool. I thought this light was more just designed for pure brightness, so, I figured that It would be heavy, hard to pack and would eat up the batteries in no time. However, I now see this to be a really rational design, and I would be happy to have one to accompany me on camping trips and night-time outdoor vertures. I carried it baldric style with the supplied strap and it was very convenient. It was surprisingly heavy for the punch that it packed, and I didnt mind having it on my shoulder for extended periods. It isn't an EDC by any measure, but it certainly has it's niche, and it fills it well.

here is how I carried it:

here is a pic that I thought was going to turn out well, but it really didn't:

Some pics of the different brighness levels (it is a little blurry, but yo get the idea):

I am not the most experience of flashlight critics, but I think this is definatly a quality peice of gear. It did, and accelled at, what it is supposed to do, plus, it is easy to use and pretty much bomb-proof. Great Light! I really hope get around to buying one some day.

SOmthing I also thought was notworthy, this is easily the most well organized passaround I have ever been a part of, directions and info directly in the box made it really easy. So, great job storl and/or FLIX.

Hope this was helpful (sorry for the blurry pics, my camera wouldn't focus in the dark),

I received the most wonderful surprise in the mail this morning! A TK40. Now I have to endure the whole day waiting for it to get dark so I can play with it this evening. I like the feel of this light already! Continued thanks for this opportunity.
