'Fess Up: Goofy novelty knives you've bought...

Well, I bought two XL Voyagers, a VG-1 Vaquero Grande, a large Talwar, a spikehawk... Cold Steel takes good care of my novelty needs. They aren't expensive and they're functional (and fun!).

Back in the 60s I got my mom to order me some of the switch blade looking knives that were advertised in the back of a comic book. Cheap little lock backs. I still have one some where.

I just clicked the 'buy now' button on a Cold Steel Ti-Lite 6" aluminum. I have absolutely no practical use for this thing, nor have I ever owned a Cold Steel product before. :o

Sure would make me feel better hearing about some of your outrageous/silly/ridiculous/novelty impulse buys...:D

Thanks for reading! :)

:D I feel that way about pretty much every XL C.S. folder that I buy. Waaaay over the top, but still silly fun. Freakin' Crocodile Dundee stuff. :p

I've got the entire collection of Franklin Mint Gas Pump knives, enough to make a clock.

My wife bought them for me, couldn't explain to get how cheap they were, she kept saying, "...do you know how much that entire set cost me?"

So now they sit in a display case waiting for me to turn them into a clock... ;)

That's funny your ZT looks the most normal out of this set of knives! :D

Pretty much everything I buy falls into that category... ;):D

Just a small sample of some of mine; heck even the ZT0350 was not needed but I got it anyway. (It's my third one!)

I have to admit that I would never have bought this for myself, but Grandson #2 saw this knife somewhere and picked it up for me for Christmas a couple of years ago. Novelty knife, but it has tons of meaning because of how I came by it. I never use it, but I always have it nearby. And, yes, that is a real scorpion embedded in the handle...

Um... yeah.. impulse buy.... I have a big Rambo type knife that I bought at that store that is something with a Harbor in it... um.. yeah. And worse... I keep it on my night stand next to my bed. :o

I guess this one is the most unpractical knife i got in my Collection, and cost me around 2000$. Guess its good to have in case of a zombie outbreak tho.:D

I bought a Cold Steel Cutlass sword a few years back at the Blade Show. I really got a good buy on it there, but have no use for it. I had absolutely no idea what these sold for, so I just asked the price and said "okay". I essentially saved nearly a $100 on that one.... but it was still money flushed down the toilet.

Bought a Frost Cutlery fish knife (folder) that just seemed kinda cool. Oh well... it still seems kind of cool.

Bought a nice filet knife (Schrade USA) with a walnut handle on it after Schrade went out of business. Since I throw most of my fish back, I have little use for it and I mostly fish for trout anyway and never filet them. Nice blade however.

One could include my first SOG Tigershark as an impulse buy. Still kind of a cool blade as are the Tech I and Tech II's.

I bet I have 6 or 7 nice filet knives that I accumulated and used when I lived in S. La. Great fishing down there and those knives got a lot of use. But now I live in the S. Rocky Mtns. and fish for trout like you do. The knives get no use for the same reasons yours don't. I throw most back and those few that I keep I don't filet.

I really hadn't thought about it until now, but I ought to take most of those and send them back home to some friends who would use 'em....

Thanks for posting, folks!

I felt as though I was starting to take my collection way too seriously and I admit it felt kind of good to buy something just for kicks. Brings back some of the fun factor, y'know? :D

When Ka-Bar released their "Zombie Killer" line, I bought a "Kharon" tanto. Yeah, I did that. :o But in spite of the silly zombie theme, it was actually a nice little knife which surprised me. I ended up giving it to a buddy who took a shining to it, but if there are any tanto freaks out there looking for a fun affordable folder... I'd honestly recommend picking one up!

I bought a CRK Sebenza once. Also, a full size CS Rajah, which is equally goofy, albeit in a different way.

When I first got into knives.. I owned tons of silly spring assisted folders, stilettos, big folders I would never do anything with, fury folders that looks ridiculous.
A fake Damascus Tanto fixed blade that was heavy as hell.
Some fantasy swords, claw dagger, Grim Reaper arm blade, you name it lol.
I even had a little tiny gun that was an auto knife. You hit the button on the handle and the blade came flying out and locked up lined with the barrel of the pistol.
I owned several crappy balisongs.
I'm sure I could come up with many more if I sat and thought for a few minutes.

Oh I forgot.
Ka-Bar Gila. While the overall idea of the knife is not a bad one, the steel is ridiculous, the knife is huge and bulky, and the aluminum would tear up pockets, but I loved it. Lol.

Oh Jeez, I am ashamed to say I was a bit of a mall ninja in my Jr. high days. I would say the worst (aside from the brass knuckle "paperweights") was a ballisong that had yellow handles with black speckles on it. It was a no name Chinese knife that fell apart within about 2 weeks.

Need some pictures to capture the true glory of these knives. :)

Great idea for a thread. And my compliments to those who are willing to admit to buying knives that they might not be so proud of.

As for myself, although every knife I've ever bought was purchased with the intent to carry at some point, some proved to be "less-preferable" than others. My list is- a couple of JUMBO folders (TOPS Magnum, Lone Wolf Harsey3), a Cold Steel Peacekeeper2, and a SOG Desert Dagger. They may not qualify as "goofy" or "novelty", but they sure turned out to be a waste of money.

Bought a couple of cheap Gerber assisted knives from a discount site recently. They were about $10 apiece and worth about $2. 😀 I think I was just curious. I also bought a couple of XL CS Voyagers. Ending up giving them to a friend who liked them.
