'Fess Up: Goofy novelty knives you've bought...

Well, my Ti-Lite 6 was sitting on the shelf of the post office for a few days. Couldn't make it down during weekend hours because of work, but I picked it up this afternoon. It is both ridiculous and cool--7" handle and 6" blade. Gonna be giggling all day... :o

I think I need another one so I can lash 'em together and make numchuks...:rolleyes::D

In the '70s, at 14 years old, I bought a "rizzuto estileto milano" switchblade that a friend got in Tijuana. The blade was useless for cutting and was made of some soft chrome stainless. I actually carried it to school in one pocket, and my stockman in another.

At the 1981 Long Beach Internationals (a martial arts tournament), I bought a cheap dragon-handled lockback, that was made in Hong Kong, from a famous martial arts master who had a table set up from his supply store.

At a surplus store, I got one of those folders with the spoon on one side and the fork on the other. It was bulky with a red plastic handle. I took it before going on a trip, and it was actually pretty functional.

I have an older version XL clip point Voyager, a SOG Pentagon Elite II, a Cold Steel Kukri machete. And although it isn't a knife, I have a Cold Steel indian war club. Not really sure why I bought that.

I will say that a surplus-store machete I got as a kid has served me very well. It was made in Japan, and I used it several years back to clear out a lot of thick vegetation from my yard, and it worked and held up very well. I consider it to be an excellent buy. I think I got it for $5 back then.

Sadly I think my Benchmade LFK falls into this catagory, had I realized it was hollow ground I probably wouldn't have purchased it.
I still like it because it reminds me of the old Marbles safety knife, however the hollow grind is so thin that anything more than light duty will probably chip it out or bend it up.

I got a lightning otf to play with, not bad at all.

Stand back!!!! I got a lot of them!
The crown jewel of my "useless" collection is my CS hand and a half (actually used it to cut my wedding cake, now it's propped by my corner of the bed), an Indian War Club (because I love "weaponish" stuff, not just bucks and SAKs), a Hawaiian Leiomano (my mother in law rocks!), several metal "belt buckle" knuckle protectors, a Zytel version of the monster ti-lite, 3 XL voyagers (1 old clip and 1 new clip, and 1 new tanto), a steel tiger (I bought Tarani's Kerambit book years back as a teen and thought afterwards, I should have a kerambit to go with it), a CS boken and Afro walking stick, a custom "LOTR" styled leaf bladed custom dagger/Lakoinia short sword made by a friend out of a tool steel (practically useless, unless I'm being swarmed by orcs, the thing cuts like a Khukri, and it can shave steel filings off of nails!), a CS triple action DE, a crummy manrikigusari, several nunchakus...
That's some of my collection, but I'm getting tired of typing... :P

I love it! Useless cheap junk knives can be a lot of fun, regardless of the reason (excuse) we had for buying them. It's like Gene Siskel having a collection of classic movies and stuck in the shelf is a Joe E. Brown, a Three Stoges and a Mars Attacks! I have a few in what I laughingly call me "Drawer Of Shame". Some are gifts from family or friends so do have some meaning. Some are just plain for the fun of it. And a few were "oopsies" from eBay when I clicked BIN without looking closely enough at the blurry pictures.

Some I came by while actually exploring classic pattern variations like my Sharpfingers. "$2 for that one?" Looks like a dayum christmas tree with the paki-wood handle, thin shiny "some kind of stainless metal" blade and a plastic sheath that would go well with an early '60's cap gun. Yeah, it came home with me. And I got it out to look at it recently. It has rust blooms just resting in it's original box. So much for stain-less!

And a few are just cool antiques like the 14k gold pencil knife dated 1926 from Lambert Brothers Jewelers in NYC. And the A. Kastor & Bros pearl gents knife with butterfly opening to expose tiny scissors.

Honestly, most of my collection could be described as novelty. After you own a good fixed blade knife, and a good folding knife, anything after that is really something you bought for the novelty of having it.

I'll have this thing forever. Nobody else wants it. Arrgg...The one knife solution, the 4 screwdriver solution...the one sucker solution. good lock up though.

really it's leatherman's fault for not having a more badass knife attached to anything.

A finger knife.. Its like some metal plates like mini armor for you finer with. A blade near your knuckle. And at the base of the blade there is a dragon head, it doesnt fit my finger due to it being too long and bigger than all my fingers. I got it because it looked cool and was only $11

Everyone should have something useless even if it is a comb switchblade or a Jarbenza.

Here's another one I picked up just for kicks: a friction folder with an interesting blade shape and a little samurai man on the handle. It's actually a pretty cool folder and can take a screamin' scary edge. For the low, low cost, why not try a Higonokami?:D

I snagged one of these bad boys for a cool $8, just to make a point about saw teeth...

Guess what? They don't work worth a hoot.

Remember these? They used to be on the back cover of every issue of SOF back in the mid-80's.

^But you can't have a Rambo knife without saw teeth on the spine! It'd be like having a Trans Am without the fire-chicken on the hood! :p

:D

What, nobody bought that dual bladed Batman knife? I confess, I bought one. I was weak.

I also gave it away within 24 hours of receiving it.

Yup, same one that I got. Oh and I got a Camillus Thrash as a Christmas present. I am actually carrying it today. Goofy, heavy knife, but surprisingly smooth to open. Flies out like it is assisted. At least its fun to flick open :D

I think mine would have to be the Swamp Rat RMD. I keep looking at it and trying to find a use for it. Currently I've archived it away in my head as an "heirloom piece" for my son some day.
Also got a used (thankfully) Benchmade AFO II - never went in my pocket.

Gasp! A United Cutlery "Phoenix" knife at a flea market in 2003. Here's a pic:
