Fewer Web Specials @ Buck

Well then.......AT LAST I turned up in the right place at the right time.

:D

I haven't bought any new Buck folders for a long time, and I've been hearing loud and agonized wailing and laments about the quality of late, so I thought I'd spring for a Vantage Force Pro and then the 55 caught my eye........so, I have those on the way and will check quality for myself.

I'm not expecting much (especially from the 55, which I've heard maligned in the past) but.....we'll see what happens. I usually have pretty good luck when I order direct from Buck.

I have a theory that a lot of the problem knives come from sleazy internet places that get their knives from the clearing house that gets all the knives that don't sell in the Bargain Cave at Cabela's.

:D

Even a blind squirrel finds an acorn once in a while :) :)

SECOND CHANCE: The 55 bone web special is back: http://www.buckknives.com/index.cfm?event=product.detail&productID=4149

My order is in.

Sidebar: The 1/2 size 55, the full size 110 and the wanted over size 220: I wonder if a larger-than-life 110 was ever made by the factory. A marketing item, perhaps. A novelty. A lock back folder twice the size of a 110 would be like a folding chef's knife. Richard Mathany might know.

Thank you for looking.

The white bone inlay has terrific swell mid-handle and tapers toward the swept bolsters. It is highly polished. One side is translucent like blond horn and one side is whiter with slight speckling. It locks open tight and rigid. Closes with a working kick and the tip below the handle sides. The closed knife disappears into the leather pouch for pocket carry with impunity.

The nickel silver 110 is outrageously perfect and instead of it being a candidate for embellishment it is great as it is. Never seen a better one.

Nice pictures oregon...they make me even more excited that I have a 55 and 110 on the way. Those look very nice!!

Nice haul oregon, that 055 in bone sure is a nice looker!

I simply wasn't perpared for the white bone .5 x 110 = 55 to be so well-made, tightly fit together, flawless, functional and beautiful. Buck can make a teeny tiny lockback to a T. This knife leaves no doubt about that.

The nickel silver 110s are rare to me. This one looks like it was made just for me, really. Everything about it screams confidently hollers Buck has found its stride in Idaho. The grind and point on the blade could not be improved upon. The gorgeous matched wood scales look like they were grown in place they fit so perfectly into the rich nickel silver frame. Even the pins, thru the wood, look as if they have been placed by magic they fit so well and present NO sharp nor abrasive surface to the hand. The tang stamp is clear and crisp. A hand-filling jewel that makes my heart beat faster and begs me to take a moment and revel in just how high of achievement Buck has brought to personal cutlery. WTG Buck. Thank you kindly.

Sweet talk will get you, well you already know, more pics! The nickel silver 110, stuff of wonderful cutlery dreams:

The Columbia River from Portland North toward Vancouver Washington joined by the I5 "Interstate" bridge at dawn yesterday, timelapse (about 7 seconds) so moving lights look like lines. The towers, with the red lights on top, work to raise part of the bridge enabling tall ships to pass underneath while traffic idles.

Light in sky is a commercial airplane coming in for a landing at PDX which is behind me.

Wed. morning experience: 12/12/12 0710CST

Needed one of the bone 55s for gift. Went thur checkout, used GIFT2012 code. Comp. said in red ink 'Gift Code Accepted' All the way to the end 60 dollar cost showed. Went to order history, 60 still show but receipt still says gift code is applied and transaction is pending. So buyer(s) beware.....I also ordered only one knife and still got free shipping.

I am counting on BG's same experience that in the cc price will be discounted, or someone is getting more gift than they deserve....ho ho.

Interesting that the 444 shows up under the New product line section as well, like it has been reintroduced into the regular line.

$60 is what I paid for the white bone 055. Free shipping, via UPS, when you spend $50 or more. A cool gift that I would be pleased to receive.

OK, BUT It shows on the order the gift code is being applied all way till you push the last button.........

And additional info for others, my confirmation email of order from Buck shows 60 price with no discount.

I think it is worth a call by me to them to say computer is doing such and others could be thinking the same as me........300

oregon is quite the salesman for Buck. I had to pick up one more of the 55's after seeing the pictures with the rounded scales...and the Portland lights along the Columbia River. :)

Well, there's no discount applied to web specials, so try all you want, you'll still pay full web special price.

The reason I got my 55 for $42 was that they first put it on at that price and then changed it to $60 after I got my order in.

I was just lucky to order early. Two hours later it was $60.

HOWEVER.........before you start thinking I got a better deal--forget it--my 55 is not near the knife that Oregon received.

It's like the ugly sister of Oregon's knife. No swell in the handles at all. No taper needed. Bone is uniformly very thin and flat as a pancake.

One side has a bit of light brownish color and the fit to the bolster in that darkened area is not perfect. Has a tiny scratch near the nail nick on one side.

Other than that, the knife is just fine. I think maybe they sold a few ugly ducklings for $42. I hear they've quit marking blems.....so is this an unmarked blem? They also failed to include the leather pouch, but I called and they said they'd send one.

I guess you get what you pay for........I can't complain at $42 (maybe that was the intent of selling for that cheaper price for two hours)......it's a nice and totally solid little knife otherwise.

:)

And the Vantage Force Pro is perfect......blade centered, no blade play, heavy duty--I'd say it's built for serious use.

I'll take in on as an EDC for a while and see if it holds up. Don't know why it wouldn't.......I treat my knives real good.

:)

BG, Your logic is very Dr. Spock like. I close my case file. On second think, maybe more appropiate to our era, you logic is very Perry Mason........... 300

The terrific one I just got thru Buck's Web Specials is dated 2009, Bucklite II, 0444BKS-B, Cat. 2595, date on label on black/yellow box it came in is dated 03-24-11. I don't know what to make of your correct observation that Buck is calling it "new." I like this small anatomical lockback that fits neatly into the watch pocket of my jeans.

I preach to the choir here.

Getting anyone here to do my bidding otherwise, non-knife stuff, would be about as likely as getting all these cats to go into the box upon my request:

I just received my 55 and 110 and they are both perfect!!:thumbup:

Try and keep it together Stumps. These are production knives. I got lucky due to clean living and pure thoughts. For both of us to get lucky and receive perfect production cutlery puts Buck into the perfection business... OK. That works. Congratulations on your new knives. Please put up a photo because, well, uh, errrr, I really like your photos and can't seem to get enough of this stuff.
