Fiddleback Collections

Will,

Your Camp Knife is off the hook.... WOW! Every time I see it, the bold burlap pattern mesmerizes me! A big handle like that is a great way to show off a material with a repeated pattern! Anyway, great collection and I too, like to watch your collection evolve. Do you use the Camp Knife much? The most fun I've had with a Camp Knife is chopping a whole pig of BBQ on a Boy Scout mountain cabin trip last winter. Who would have thought that to be a food prep tool! :)

Will

Shank,

I really enjoyed seeing your Fiddlebacks! Thank you! You have some superlative examples! That Big Sneaky in osage... WOW! The guardless Woodchuck... Mmmmmm! The creamy maple burl Bushfinger is extraordinary! and.... The snakewood Sneaky Pete is my all time favorite Fiddleback, PERIOD. Very cool, my friend, very cool.

Thanks again!

I can only imagine that osage Big Sneaky when it gets some sun and acquires that deep golden hue..... MMMmmmmmmmm..... I love it when the stripes keep their lighter yellow and the rest of the wood gets rich and dark. OK, I'm getting myself excited, better stop

Update of my Box Elder Burl collection. Still looking for other models. Got something in natural BEB you want to sell or trade? :D

Nice update pics, Shank and Will. Very nice and diverse collections. :)

Bud, do you have one or two favorites out of those? I'm loving that EDK. :D

hmm .. the Dueling Kardas are my definite favorites - but the Sneaky & Recluse have the best examples of the BEB - very figured.

Hello hiking buddies!

Man I love that camp nessie!

Ditto on the Camp Nessie.

Thanks guys!

I really like the evolution of your collection Will. You have achieved a perfect balance of ironwood and burlap/synthetic beauties. Those are all prime examples of their respective models. If I was forced to pick a favorite, it would be your bolstered Camp Nessie. That one is just killer.

Nice job my friend!

Phil

Thanks Phil -- I'd have to agree; if all of my DI had to go tomorrow, this would be the one that stays behind (although the bushcrafter and woodsman might have their feelings hurt ;))

Thanks Will -- I too can get lost in the drunken burlap at times! The camp knife has seen equal action bashing through wood for campfires (to keep the 'skeeters away) as well as butchering tasty vittles to go on my BGE; heck the wife has even stopped rolling her eyes when she sees it in the kitchen these days! I only cleaned her up last week as I had intended to get some new pics up.

As an aside, I'm doing a 25mi 2-day section hike on the AT at the end of the month; the camp & HB will be in my kit along with a bowsaw and leatherman -- if I can con my buddy into snapping a few pics, I'll try to get a review of both knives up shortl there after

There have been a lot of comings, goings and culls this year but I finally got most of my Fiddlebacks in one place for a while. Hoping to get better pictures soon.

Synthetics (missing a scandi kephart):

Wood - just cleaned and oiled hence the sheen (missing kephart, runt and hiking buddy):

Holy smokes! That is quite the collection bear. The competition cutter is the tops for me. Too many other nice ones to list. Well done!

Very impressive collection Jules. Nice balance between wood and synthetics. I agree with Tod that the Competition Cutter is amazing with that old school 3D spalting. I notice that you don't have many 3" models. Is that by choice or you just have not found the right ones yet?

Thanks for sharing the photos.

Phil

Hey Jules
I will have to agree with the others on the Competition Cutter being the pick of the litter.
What a fine collection you have.

Mick

sweet collection bear, really dig you grouping the synthetics and the naturals. What wood is the bushcrafter? Is that ancient bog wood?
