Fiddleback Collections

I wondered if/when you'd unveil a total grouping of your blades. You've amassed a beautiful collection at quite a rate. Impressive. Well done!

Kept waiting for a break in the incoming flow and figured I'd never get a photo if I waited for that to happen. lol Thanks. But the incoming flow is quite the output flow of $$

Slacker! :p

In all seriousness, you have assembled a cherry-picked collection of super primo knives Jerry. You have excellent taste in knives and blazing speed on the keyboard. That is unfortunate for many of us with tastes that crossover with yours.. :o

Thanks for sharing the photos. I wondered how deep your collection was and now we know.

Phil

Thanks Phil. I give full credit of model knowledge/targeting to you and a few others (Thurin, Mistwalker, etc.) with the extremely informative threads that helped instill the madness

 Jerry! I'm not worthy! Stellar collection bro!:D

Thanks. Thank you for recognizing my insanity :-)

Looks to me like you're just getting warmed up jerry ;)

Thanks but to sound like Tony .. I gotta stop. I am not buying ANY knives until 2017, unless something irresistible comes up. hahaha

Reference to you above, Buddy. :-)

Very nice collection Jerry with fine examples across many of the Fiddleback and Family.

Thanks. Bit of diversification. After spending some time here talking to folks, it seems like Bark River is the gateway drug to Fiddlebacks (and you usu. don't go back to Bark River) and then Fiddlebacks are the gateway drug to WAS and OKT (and you can't shake either of the 3)

That's an awesome collection Jerry :eek:

Thanks. Eeeek about sums it up Abe!

Well done Jerry....amazing in what short time you created that awesome collection!....congrats...that brisket line is frigghin gorgeous!

Happy i could contribute a tiny but to it as well....

Thanks. The bank account is beyond cringing. :-)

Yep .. your GREEN one really stands out there huh? "One of these things is not like the other .. "

That black esquire doesn't match the set... send to me for proper disposal haha jk beautiful collection of primo knives!

Thanks. Knowing you just got hooked on these, consider that my first purchase from Fiddleback Forge was 3/25/16 and this insanity occurred within only 7 months. Not shown here 20 that I've sold and 1 that was gifted.

bunch of good looking knives Jerry

Thanks Sir! You should take a day off work sometime and share a picture of your Fiddleback Family collection. Dylan should hopefully have more Brisket available soon too. (hint hint) (3/32 black/orange preferred double hint) :D

Wow!! Big 5-0!!

Or rather pushing up into the "great white" level/class of FF&Family Collector.

What is the model above the Fletcher?

Yeah, it disturbs me a bit when I consider that I can now designate 1 to carry for each week of the year. :-)

Good question. I took some time this morning and added model names.

Not wanting to tread on Jerry's on toes but it's a Longfellow above an Esteban II

Ouch my toes! lol Hey Jules, no worries .. Thanks for the awesome Longfellow! It is pretty substantial in size when you lay it out with the rest. :-)

Great stuff!! So which is the favorite go-to?

I find it interesting I have no natural pins in my collection and you almost have no black....

I think you meant that the other way around - I just recently caved and picked up some with natural pins. Kind of like Jack Sprat there :-)

The Go-To is a tough question. I saw this last night and thought on it quite a bit and just don't know. It is the least of anyone's problems but one of my problems is getting delayed leaving the house trying to pick which one I want to carry. I usually end up with 1 on the belt, maybe 1 in the pocket and about 3 in sheaths in the backpack for just in case. Lately I've been leaning towards smaller EDCs just for size convenience but I absolutely love the Brisket Bushfinger (probably my top favorite for reasons I can't explain) and then there is the OKT Hunter, Apache, Old School Lady ... they don't get carried enough. It probably isn't fair to the others since they just arrived in the past couple of weeks but I've been carrying the Bushnub II on the belt and the PK in the pocket as a pair quite a bit lately. The Raptor just might take over but I have not yet carried the Harpoon either (very recent arrival).

Ones that I struggle over most often (in no particular order) would be: Big Palmer, Bushboot, Sylvrfalcen, PK, Warthog, Bushnub II, Shark, Mamushi, Bobcat, Hiking Buddy, Raptor, Esquire

I just need to borrow Machete's vest. lol

Quite the collection!

Love all the brisket burlap.

And that Esteban. :D

Thanks. The Brisket is one of my favorites just because of the randomness to it.

The Esteban II is pretty hefty but really ergonomic and balanced well.

Jerry I knew you liked the brisket burlap, but I didn't even realize that there was that many out there. Ha! What a great collection.

I had decided to strop my kitchen fiddlebacks (CPM154 Padre Sr. & 1/32" F2) and decided to snap a quick pic of some more recent additions. The padre sr. and F2 see daily use; the monarch is in the edc queue, and the arete & KEB are vying for my favorite for an upcoming winter AT hike ;)

The Arete and KEB look so similar from afar, I'm curious about the differences in-hand, and what your deciding criteria will be.

What section of the AT will you be tackling? (Brrrrrr.)

P -- good question; seeing that my post count has been abysmal this year, it might be fitting that I spend a few moments sharing some thoughts on these two models for my intended use, as this question comes up often. Both profiles are awesome for lightweight woods bumming -- in my specific case, each has their own merit, as the Arete is 3/32 scandi, and the KEB is 1/8 convex, however the designs themselves each have their own unique nuances that really shine through depending on how you bushcraft. For me personally, I will always be a lifelong bushcrafter zealot (1/8 TT, full height grind 01), however, the BC cannot do some of the more intricate tip drilling and detail work that the spearpoint KEB & Arete can do. Depending on where you are woodsbumming, and what type of BC tradecraft you implement (eg, just making kindling, or going straight "hardwoodsman" style, making parts of your kit on the go), a pointier design might have more merit. For similar reference, see some of mistwalker's posts from a few years ago on the kephart, shank, and asp for bushcraft, and thus my appreciation for the "pointier" fiddleback bushcraft blades.

None the less, let me get some thoughts together, and I'll try to get a more comprehensive post up tomorrow afternoon, along with some pics.

PS. we will be doing an NJ section of the AT; mashpicong through pochuck :D

Thank you for your thoughtful response. I look forward to your further insights, whenever you can get to them. While my intended uses pale in comparison with yours, every knife provides opportunity for education, direct comparisons are often even more clarifying, and I welcome any help in increasing my understanding of the different patterns.

(Short version: Thanks!)

My 'home' section of the AT lies further north. While I know certain crazies who embrace the challenges of snow and ice, my preferred season is, let's see, "August." :D

Finally got all of my Kepharts in one place. My fave model but don't ask me to pick one....oh go on then, still the first one - Maple Burl, top right, perfect grind height and taper. The Osage and Goncalo Alvez win it on looks in my opinion, but I also really like the Giraffe Bone and Ebony for the rarity value, dammit I love them all.

Handle lengths vary.

Just the dark side...(Black canvas, Ebony, Blackwood, Bog Oak and Black Palm)
