Fiddleback Friday Troubles

What model, tang, thickness etc are you looking for? I'd be more than happy to keep an eye open on the flea market, etc if you had something in particular in mind.

Thank you for the offer: I am looking for a black bolstered burl or other wood Bushcrafter in 1/8. I appreciate your help.

Patience you must have for that is a highly desired model. Hang in there, it may take awhile.

Andy and Crew, without wanting to repeat most of the sentiments of the long-term crowd, please feel reassured that most of us would feel poorer for the loss of fun that the Fiddleback Friday thread provides. Of course it has become more competitive due to increased demand, but there are also many more knives to choose from. I was privileged enough to visit the shop in Cumming and, yes, I was able to purchase steel there (nothing that had been previewed), I am a customer and that is what customers tend to want to do! For the record, I don't look at Fotki and usually only look at the Sneak peek after the friday thread, this prevents me from setting my heart on a knife and getting disappointed, I also don't feel the need to do any kind of sniping/auto-shark mullarkey, even if I knew how. The dealers are getting an increased range and selection of knives, and the Fleamarket is regularly packed with beauties, the Friday thread is not the only place to score knives and we all had to wait for the 'special one'. Cheers guys and gal.

My 2 cents for what they are worth....

Keep a photo blog or a WIP thread, no promises to where or to whom they go.... Maybe they show up on a dealer site, maybe they show up in a Friday thread, maybe they don't. :D

For me the elusivness and the hunt are half the fun.

Regardless of what you do, if you still make knives, people will come.

FF can't be the only shop to have hit this bump in the road, I hope you get through it and come out better than ever.

Cheers to the Fiddleback crew for doing what you love.

Andy, please don't change a thing and keep changing whenever you feel it's right.

Andy,

Sell what you want, how you want, to who you want, whenever you want to. Whatever you decide I'm backing you up.

This!

I will continue to support through your dealers, and your Friday threads when my work schedule doesn't interfere. If by some chance I'm ever near your shop and have time to come by, I'd like to think I would have the opportunity to purchase one directly. Is somebody really put out about that?!

Andy - It bums me out to read this. You guys offer a great product with great customer service. I hope you don't let the negative emails get you down. I think it is clear that the majority of us love what you do and how you do it. Your knives and this community have enriched my life in many different ways. I have made a lot of friends, learned a lot and had a great time. It took me awhile to get my first one. I failed miserably the first four weeks and it took me a couple months to get a hiking buddy. But all of that made it even more sweet when I finally got one. Now, it is easier than I have ever seen it to get a choice fiddleback. I can't believe anyone would complain.

I wish you guys the best and know many of us support you and all the crew.

Keep up the good work!!!!!!

Are we talking about knives or the last pint of blood at a hospital

Put things in perspective

We appreciate all the support and +or- 60 more will be put out this week in various avenues

My master plan of getting Andy to only sell his knives through dealers is working! Only a few more nasty emails and all will be successful. Just gotta create a few new profiles and all will be right:D!

Andy, keep on keeping on. It is no surprise to me that all this is happening right now. It seems like each time I e faced a major decision or had a lot going on, that the storms came. Your handmade business is popping, you've got more apprentices then ever before, more employees, a new semi-production line, AND you're moving your shop location. That in and of itself is a lot of pressure, but add to that the trials . . . I feel for you.

Guys and gals, we need to all get behind our friend and lift him up right now! He's got so much on his plate right now. He has a family too. All this negative stress affects not just Andy, but it affects his wife and children. That is a shame.

Andy, I hope you realize how much you as a person are appreciated. Go home and love on your family and try and put this all behind you.

Very well said...

Andy,
I've only been around since last fall and have already bought 15 or so of your knives...love the way you do business, love what you produce, the chase (and fiddleback Friday, is the biggest thrill of them all) is what I love and keeps me hungry for more of your masterpieces.

Don't waste time worrying about those that wish to worry you.
Just keep loving those that love you.

Long live Fiddleback Friday's! :)

I was not very happy initially but adjusted

I could not write computer program to snag a knife. I sometime even could not put a vague description, since I try to get tapered tongue not every knife clearly visible on "Fotki" if it tapered or not. so I need first to review the description when putted on Friday and then put my claim. Many time somebody above me. again like somebody said this is my problem.

Now, Andy consider one simple thing - you are doing popular, demanded, custom made IDIDIVIDUAL AND ONE OF THE KIND PRODUCT.
if you are popular this means that THERE WILL BE MORE THEN ONE PERSON WHO WANT THIS PARTICULAR KNIFE. No matter which selling model you choose YOU ALWAYS GET THE COMPLAINER who does not win this particular knife period.
Such a person consciously or subconsciously push you to make 2,3,4...X copy. if you want go this way you end up solely on production or become doing customer request job which you've been told in the past you does not want to do (the last one, not the production). you will go away from ART OF DOING KNIVES.

customers:
consider this:
most of the dialers put a new butch when they want. I does not know like you but I can not constantly clicking links multiple times a day to search if there is a new butch came.
Instagram or facebook sale through even worse. not everybody can constantly refresh page page to catch 1-2 knives that was just released. I cannot. it will be profit to IT and programmers who sit in from of computer whole day and meanwhile can do it, but not to the most falks. and it will be even more complains. if Andy will be selling through Instagram or facebook, after all complains he would probably again will put some time of placing the butch will finally come to same "Friday"

selling from shop - will make Andy crew a nightmare working with customers instead of making knives, or separate person on the phone (salary, taxes, benefits) still unhappy customers who stay on hold for hours " I could not reach that d...m guys are they selling knives or what?....", and again spending your time on service instead working "this guy want this knife but without this... we don't do it... he ask may be you plan to do it... no I don't plan... he tell that he customer and will be complaining of customer association about quality of you products and quality of service. May be we will do it to shut him up?... Da..mm let him complain, I think I should restart my Fiddleback Fridays and stop paying for this xxx phone line" :D:D:D
