Fiddleback on Tap Saturdays

LOL, no, I woke up and sat at my desk :) I'm about to put on the coffee. The brew shot will come later today. I could actually do a whole lot more shots of Fiddlebacks and coffee than I could Fiddlebacks and beer with the odd hours I work :D

Coffee is brewed too, right?

Pappy 30? Please tell me about this one! I have enjoyed 20, but 30???? NICE!

30yr Pappy Van Winkle and a Guinness for me this evening. This week was a blur and I needed something to round off the edge! Duder & Thurin, both you guys are right up my alley this evening with your choices as well!

Thanks; it was very very nice. Interestingly enough, I should have caveated my statement in that it was actually 30+ yr. devil's share, extraced from PVW factory barrels... Could have even been older than that. Long story about how I got the stuff, but I probably have <8oz left, and I cut it with filtered water as needed. :D

Will, you have to tell.... VERY INTERESTED! :)

Long story short, a close friends brother works for a brewery that uses the leftover PV barrels to make their bourbon barrel stout. Normally the casks they get are much younger (few years old at best) and are used to season the beer in secondary fermentation to take on the bourbon taste. Well, before Xmas, they received their allocation of barrels and some were stamped from the early 80s. Apparently PVW released a run of 20-30 year around the same time, so the story checked out and the barrels were legit. The lot of barrels were used to make a limited reserve run of the traditional stout, but a few of the best barrels were kept for extraction. Now I don't know how they do it, but they extracted the PVW from these barrels, purified it 6 x times using their existing lab, ran it through and alcoloyzer and attempted to proof it. Now granted the brewery was not licensed to sell or even proof whiskey, so what was extracted was split and gifted among friends and family members. The portion I received was from my buddy whose brother works at the brewery. Tasty stuff no doubt, but cask strength is an understatement!

I would say that the actual run (not the barrel cut) would be somewhere in the realm of divine. I've had actual 20, and was blown away. The 30 was available up north earlier this year; buddy of mine paid $40 for a pour, said it was insane. The stuff I have is really cool but lacking refinement of an actual run since the woodiness on it is quite intense given that it was extracted from the staves

Damn, I grew up in the Tennessee hills, the son of a moonshiner, and then spent a few years as hanging out at the lounge in Dallas where my mother was lead bartender. I've been drinking for thirty five years trying a little bit of everything just to see what it was about...and now suddenly, I don't even know if I know what bourbon is lol

Just thought this deserved a bump. I'm not drinking yet, but pizza and beer is on it's way. Shaving with my new Woodsman.:D

Lol, have had a couple more and decided to bust out all my new toys. Hope nobody is offended they aren't all Fiddlebacks, this time next week a new Karda will be joining the party as well. Fiddlebacks, Martin's, and beer: the only 3 things I know I could take into the woods and be totally happy with!

This Ten Fidy Imperial Stout from Oskar Blues deserves a dark blade.

I guess tonight is the night of the Stouts! Good stuff Will!

I have no picture, but I'm at the lake (Smith Mountain Lake), it's about 40 degrees, the kids are playing around the fire, roasting marshmallows, making up silly songs while I sit back on the laptop looking at Fiddlebacks, drinking a Sunken City Red Clay IPA (local brewery a mile away). Damn, this is some good Fiddlebackin'! I hope all you guys are having a great weekend!

That sounds awesome Will! Nothing better than watching the kids enjoy the outdoors.

I had a friend over to watch the games tonight and introduced him to a couple of local Stouts. The Ten Fidy and this Oak Aged Yeti from Great Divide. They were our dessert after burritos and margaritas.
