Great news man, glad to hear it!

Happy birthday Peter! Damn that looks like an awesome trip! We have reservation in Gatlinburg for Octoberfest next month, and I can't wait!

Thanks Brian, it definitely was a memorable excursion and made for some quality time without distractions with my wife. It was fun having fun together. No TV or Internet for five full days. That's a record for me.

Your planned trip to the Smokey Mtn's should put you right in the sweet spot for fall color. Let's hope for a little rain to help the trees strut their stuff !

Wow... Great looking selection of knives!

Nice location too. :)

I really like the mountainous areas of North GA as well as Western NC and Eastern TN.

Hopefully I'll get back up there for some more leisure time before too long.

At the end of my last visit to NC... My wife and I hiked for a short time on the "Bartram Trail" which runs through the mountain wilderness of North GA and Western NC.

I'd like to return and explore that area some more along with my wife and children... Maybe try out some half-day or day-hikes with picnic lunch... Perhaps even consider an overnight backpacking/camping trip?

Thanks for posting the links for the Bartram Trail........looks like it would make for a cool family adventure !

Peter,
Happy birthday my friend. Birthday celebrations are a beast glad to see you resting:)
We need to plan a beach gathering. We would have a blast.
Best wishes to you and yours
Rob

Thanks Rob !

With daytime temps still reaching into the high 80's I got a pretty good work out breaking down our supply of firewood. Add in some hiking and some serious pin ball competition and it was time to hang our Eno hammock & give it a work out. Since it was my birthday, I got to go first ;)

Your suggestion of a beach gathering sounds enticing. We may need to put our heads together during Blade Show and see what we can come up with. My stainless steel knives are all shaking their handles "yes".

What about Emerald Isle? I have heard it is beautiful and I think you are near the GA and SC line.

The Lady got its first little hint of what's to come this hunting season. I helped a guy with a management hunt last weekend and he arrowed this beautiful buck at 25 yards. I didn't get to put her to use on any of the field dressing because the hunter and his brother had it very well handled. Hopefully this weekend the Lady will get to help dress out a Pronghorn.

I took my Hiking Buddy squirrel hunting with me this afternoon. Although I didn't get any squirrels I did find a nice coral mushroom as well as what I believe to be hen of the woods. I know this little blade is a great fishing knife. I can't wait to use it to skin some small game and maybe even some larger game.

I'll be doing both a video, and a Fiddleback Outpost blog entry for this hunt, this will just be a quick preview! It was a quick hunt in a beautiful area, I feel very fortunate to live in the west were we have so much public land to utilize.

Spent Friday night several miles into the Wyoming wilderness, some driven and the rest hiked. I was hoping to wake up on Saturday morning and fill the pronghorn doe tag that I had in my pocket.

Woke up at 4:00AM to elk bugling and coyotes yelping. The sun came up around 6:00AM and by 8:30AM I had my tagged filled and the Lady Finger at work on her first big game animal and my first pronghorn.

Taken with my .270 at 310 yards.

The tools. I gutted and did some skinning with the Lady. Everything else was done with the Havalon. I don't normally bring a saw, but my Dad requested the ribs. It was actually really useful, I may take the weight penalty again for the saw in the future.

Looking forward to the video.

What was the weight? Just curious of game size in different regions.

I have no idea. I quartered it and packed it out. I bet it was 80-90 pounds on the hoof. Average weight of a doe pronghorn is 75-100 pounds. I packed around 50-60 pounds out with the bone in quarters, backstraps, bone in ribs, tenderloins, heart, tongue, and trimmings.

I'll be finishing up the processing and packing tomorrow, got a couple videos in line before this one but I plan on putting some editing work in this week! Lots of hunting planned for the next two months. We're hunting grouse again on Saturday, but we get the help of a dog this time! Then doves on Sunday. Elk in two weeks.
