After two years of physical therapy and Dr. ordered restrictions on my physical activity due to a nasty shoulder injury, I finally got the green light to rock climb again. Compared to 2014, I am fat and weak. I had trouble pulling my fat ass up climbs that used to be my warm ups. It will be a long road back, but I am 1000% committed to both reclaiming and surpassing my previous level of fitness and climbing ability. Today was just a start, and it was an awesome one! I was in a beautiful canyon with a great climbing partner and FINALLY doing what I love again.

...and I took a cool Fiddleback with me just because! :D

My wife treated me (us) to a nice week long cabin getaway in Morganton, GA to celebrate my birthday. This of course called for a mixed bag of knives to handle food & firewood prep etc:

The cover from the gas grill made for a nice back drop:

We made good use of our matching set of Fiddleback knives in the kitchen:

Cooked up some beef tenderloin on the grill:

The carbon fiber handled steak knives we picked up at Blade Show this year were put to good use:

The view from the upper deck was quite relaxing, complete with a working farm.......who needs an alarm clock when you have a rooster to make sure you don't over sleep:

Speaking of relaxing, birthdays can be hard work. Must rest up so we can do it again next year:

Awesome post and pictures! Happy (belated) birthday Peter

Peter, a belated Happy Birthday to you!
I'm beginning to envy these outings of yours. Not to mention the group of eye candy cutting tools. Some stellar pieces in that group!

Take care,
Sergio

Happy Birthday Peter!! Looks like a great trip with some nice knives!

Glad to hear you are climbing again Charles!

Birthday trips are some of the best. Really awesome shot overlooking the valley with the pasture sectioned off. Thanks for sharing.

Happy belated birthday Peter. That looks like an awesome trip.

It's 11PM here and your pics made me hungry. Now off to rustle up a snack

Thanks for the kind words & BD wishes guys !

This really was a cool trip and a memorable birthday week. The cabin we rented had some nice amenities including a "clean" hot tub, pool table and a Pirates of the Caribbean pin ball machine (which got a pretty good workout). The nights under the stars were amazing. The milky way was present in all its glory. My wife claims we even had a UFO sighting. I imagine it may have been a piece of space junk that burned up coming into the upper atmosphere, however, at the time & with a few beers to juice the imagination, it was fun to think we may have witnessed something from a distant galaxy. Even now we can't get the music from the pin ball machine out of our heads....."Yo ho, Yo ho, a Pirates Life for Me". Oh yea, it was also great fun to give our knives a work out.

Great news man, glad to hear it!

Wow... Great looking selection of knives!

Nice location too. :)

I really like the mountainous areas of North GA as well as Western NC and Eastern TN.

Hopefully I'll get back up there for some more leisure time before too long.

At the end of my last visit to NC... My wife and I hiked for a short time on the "Bartram Trail" which runs through the mountain wilderness of North GA and Western NC.

I'd like to return and explore that area some more along with my wife and children... Maybe try out some half-day or day-hikes with picnic lunch... Perhaps even consider an overnight backpacking/camping trip?
