Well, all the knives are with their new owners. I'm sure they will be enjoyed, that's better than just sitting in one of my drawers.

I got more out of this GAW than the winners, if everyone can believe that! Thanks again to everyone who participated.

Congratulations to all the winners.

Special thanks to Glennbad for the giveaway. An extremely generous contribution to the forum, and its members!

In light of the recent chaotic events of this years' forum knife, I thought it would be good to bring a thread like this up to show what "The Porch" is all about. We're not a bunch of fanboys(and girls) patting ourselves on the back working on our secret handshake. We love knives, but we also care about each other. Many of us are close friends, probably never meeting each other in person, yet we feel like brothers, sisters, and close friends.

Last year I literally gave a way a half dozen of the past years' forum knives to members who didn't have them, in an effort to help them fill an empty spot in their collection. I could have easily sold these for double or triple what I paid for them, but that's not what I wanted to do. I'm not trying to blow my own horn, there are members here that are far more generous than I am. I wasn't always generous like this. I grew up the youngest of four, and we didn't have a lot growing up, so I didn't always share my stuff. However, spending time in this subforum showed me how rewarding it can be to give freely without condition.

I have seen members literally sell their own knives to help another member help pay bills, or give a knife freely to someone that lost one. We have mourned the loss of our own members as if they were a part of our on family, and rejoiced over marriages and new babies being born.

So hopefully everyone that is not familiar with The Porch can gain some insight into why we feel this place is special, and why we are so protective of it and the fruits that it bears, like the annual forum knife.

I have purchased every forum knife. Even the ones that were not favorites. Honestly, as much as I love GEC, I'd be happy with any decent quality knife as a forum knife. For me, anyway, it's not about the knife, it's about what it represents. Padding your stats so you meet some requirement to buy a cheap GEC SFO is so far from what The Porch is all about. Stick around, meet some members, talk knives. You may find you want to stay. If you don't want to, that's cool also.

Spoken from the heart glennbad, with an obvious passion for the fellowship of the core members.

I joined in December 2016, around the same time as I joined my first Facebook group of British knife collectors, SJCUK, I admit I felt out of my depth when looking through all the posts from veteran knife collectors and was a bit overwhelmed by what I saw others collecting.

Posting photo's on BF back then was, to me, a nightmare as I am somewhat of a technophobe, but only recently has it been made so much easier to post photos (for me) as a photo does speak louder than words for me and I am proud to show off my knives, be they my dads battered and damaged IXL (which he carried all his life and brings back so many childhood memories) to my first GEC, a 3 blade #56 weaver Jack in rust red micarta, which sent me further afield and am now in possession of some fine Queen/Cripple Creek. S&M, Robeson's etc, and to engage with the forums, threads, replies etc...all on my PC as I hate mobile phones (cell phones) and I have just realised that this is the longest post I have written on BF but that is down to this years #86!

I have seen numerous posts decrying the "Flippers" and "Padders". I do have a passion for GEC knives and, like others who have stated the same, I could not always get onto BF due to life commitments so I have posted whenever possible (as I will never pay the Flippers prices) hoping to meet the requirements to get hold of this years offering, I did get a paypal receipt of payment and yes I buggered up by not including my BF username!

To all that have been a part, not only in this years knife but from the beginning of this place , I thank you, to those that strive to gain profit in place of camaraderie, shame on you!
