Didn't one of the knife makers mention jigged micarta as a good inexpensive, but good looking alternative for expensive stag? I'm not sure I'd go for acrylic or "plastic" either, but I thought I saw some very nice examples of jigged micarta that looked great. I could be wrong, though.

I agree with you 100%. The "plastic look" doesn't interest me much but jigged micarta can look great. Some recent examples in the Makers for sale forum certainly demonstrate how good it can look.

I'm interested to see if anything comes out of the Amherst Cutlery possibility. I've been wanting to grab something from them for a while now. Even though I voted for a swayback and have little interest in a barlow...I'd probably be in for either if Amherst Cutlery was making the knife.

Yep, natural materials, but properly dyed and jigged micarta can look great, too.

+1 on the Amherst Cutlery possibility. Definitely worth exploring.

Unofficial recount:
Barlow 69
Swayback 63

Who has the "official" count?
I have just been checking the 1st page for the count for the last several days and I thought the Swayback was leading, but we are 6 down?:eek:
I doubt we can overcome a 6 vote lead in less than 3 days, but who knows.

That being said, the idea of possibly getting some of that Amherst stag (even in a Barlow), is pretty enticing:thumbup:

Actually, four votes were taken from the Swayback, three changed their minds, and one could not afford it.

I have just being keeping up with the ones that changed their mind, since I am one of them. Then Gus pointed out one on his vistors messages that backed out of buying the SB due to the economic situation.

So, that is how I came up with the numbers.

Yes, jigged micarta can be quite attractive. And it's about indestructible - perfect for an EDC.

Friends,

I too really like jigged micarda. This new-fangled plastic stuff just doesn't appeal to me! Just my 2 Cents! :D

If we choose a barlow, the door is much more wide open.

(edited to add, I switched my initial vote to Barlow since I felt we would have more options.)

this will be my first forum knife so i think i will rely on the good advice given by an expert fellow like mr. Bastid. i voted for the barlow pattern and also think the handle should be scaled in stag,bone or a good dense wood like ebony or somthing similar.

Current unofficial recount:
Barlow= 72
Swayback = 62

Just a reminder. The voting will end tonight.
Keep in mind there are a few votes that have been reversed or removed.

There also seems to be a few votes from folks that never post here and those might be confirmed before the results are announced.

Only going to adjust the votes for the "mistakes" or "changed minds" that were brought to light to all of us.

Off the top of my head I know of:
One swayback vote made with no intention of following through. (see my Visitor messgages).
And two swayback votes that was changed to Barlows. (In this thread).

So when you look at the top, subtract 3 from swayback and add 2 to Barlow.
(There may be more, I will go through this thread and make sure once the poll closes.

Barlow would be in the lead then. 71 to 70. Come on swayback! :D
