Wow, I normally would be saying "What the hell do you think you're doing prying with a knife?!" but this is gives the Izula even more fame. At least you got in, lol. Is it just me or does anyone else think this should go up on the main site? Out of nearly 4,000 Izulas only 1 has been returned and it pried open a locked door before the tip even broke. :thumbup:Dear All,
This is my first post here at BF. Been hanging around this forum for a while but refrained from posting for no obvious reason. But this is a special occasion, because the dumbass that broke the tip of the Izula is me and i guess i owe you guys an explanation.
I was locked out with my gf yesterday and since it's getting kinda cold here at chicago, i decided to pry the lock open. The black izula was the only tool i got with me other that the pink one i got for my girlfriend so i figured it's about time to test this knife out. I know it's a gross abuse of the knife but damn, this knife held up real good. I meant, fantastic. I stuck it in between the brick wall and the door lock and lean against it. It supported my whole body weight! I lean against it and pushed harder for a few more times and pulled the knife out to check it. guess what i saw? instead of breaking, the tip BENT(1/3" of the tip) after supporting my whole body weight(approx 175lb) of lateral
force. A stainless steel blade can never do this. I tried prying with .156" thick cpm S30V blade with similar dimension before and it broke even before i use my body weight. I'm an engineering student (still stupid enough to do this), and i can tell you that i've never seen steel that deformed plastically under this hardness. I was truly surprised. Anyway, back to the door, i turned the knife over and kept doing what i was supposed to do and the end result: got the door opened, made a pretty big hole on the brick wall and broke the tip eventually. The tip was already bent, so i tried to bend it back, i guess i just wanted to break it. Too bad i even put a nice convex edge on it. No problem with the knife. In fact, this is the strongest knife i've own.
My experience with the RC knives started 2 weeks ago when i got 2 Izulas(black for me pink for my gf) and a HEST. I used to be a folder guy with dozens of spydies, benchmades and emersons(and i broke a lot of them!) but these were the knives that got me into the fixed blade. This is one of the best knife purchases i've had.
So, here is my first post + explanation. I'm kinda both proud and ashamed to be the first person to break an Izula. Thanks for reading and be nice...![]()
Or better still, work with a locksmith - get the knowledge yourself, you never know when that comes in handy ...Pick up one of those pocket pry bars from countycomm or somewhere else, or call a locksmith/get extra keys.
