Finally got our first Izula return

Hey all, I'm sorry that my action caused some disagreements between some of you guys. As i said, it's an abuse of the knife and this knife is not designed to do this task.
I only had to do this because i just moved in to this new place one month ago and wasn't quite used to the lock. Since this is a "nice" neighborhood, i had to open the lock quick before someone think that i was breaking into somebody's house. Believe me, i had to convince some passerby that i was staying in that house when i was doing that. Also, it was 37 degree outside and we were wearing only T-shirt(it was suppose to be a short trip out to buy some groceries). So the Izula was the only thing i got with me that can pry. I do not advocate abusing knives unless really necessary. I used to dig my car out of the ice using my mini-manix as an ice pick, it worked, and my wheels were freed of ice but i broke the tip too. But it was necessary since i was in the middle of nowhere. Again, abusing knife is wrong and i was not proud to do that. I would buy another izula even without the warranty.
So here's my second post here and i'm working toward getting the required posts to become a RAT pack. Hope i'm still qualified by that time.

Not trying to pile on here but the next time it's cold out, wear more cloths even if it is just a short trip! You never know when something may happen. :)

I hate to hear of a knife being abused, but I guess this could be considered an emergency.

I think I would have found another way.

One Izula in 4000. Pretty impressive :) Maybe pick up a fire kit for when you go to the store in the cold, next time :)

hmm, maybe this should be rat cutlerys intro into a survival prybar. you could call it the ratool!!!! what do ya think jeff?

I have an Atwood Prybaby on my keyring for things like this. Sorry he had to break his knife. I probably would have just made a few phone calls and got back into the car to wait for help, rather than ruin my knife.

I would also like to note that I am very impressed by the proprietor's attitude regarding things like this. I was getting really annoyed with the "hard use, extreme tool" garbage that has become so popular in the knife community. That's not what knives are about.

When I first heard about RAT cutlery in other threads, it sounded like some company trying to capture the Busse mystique with a more affordable and available product, but having a great warranty and and a fan club appear to be the only parallels upon further research. I've become a fan after lurking here for a while. I'd like to try out an RC-3, sooner or later.

I'm pretty happy with the one I just got.
larger grip would be nice, but I'm used to that from most knives (and guns)

I broke my Izula's tip a couple of days ago. It dropped tip first, straight on the asphalt. Just a bit of it broke, and 10 minutes on a ceramic rod and an Arkansas stone fixed it right up.
I just don't believe in using warranty unless I absolutely must.
I personally found that learning how to fix a tip, or a chipped edge, is indeed a skill that comes in handy once every so often.

I agree - especially after last December when my wife locked us both out of the house when i was wearing nothing but a bath towel in the snow.
fortunately, I was able to repair the door jamb i kicked in pretty easy after i got dressed...

I'm totally on par with Jeff about tool abuse. My boss who is also my best friend,I used to get knives
for him but after he turned 2 Spyderco Delicas and 1 Swiss Army knife turned into screwdrivers I now
buy him screwdrivers.
I just turned 40 on xmas,I've been collecting tools since I was 16 yrs old
(sign fabricator/electrician)They are my means to make a livin'.
I carry multiple knives each has it's own intended purpose,(food prep, wood carving, multi tool)
That being said I'm glad it all ended well,
