Finally Got The Production Model

Got it! :D
This is one heavy knife, OMG! The biggest and heaviest knife in my collection used to be a Buck 119. The Schrade has barely more edge but the 119 weighs almost nothing in comparison. But that's why I bought it, I always wanted a heavy duty chopper like that! I wanted something like a BK9 or Kabar Cutlass but then this smaller Schrade somehow made me forget the bigger knives. This one will ride in my backpack when I go hiking!
The sheath is kinda cool. I'll have to play with it a little more.

Yeah, I was pretty sure from the discussion that it was going to go into the "extreme survival" line...I designed it thick with a strong tip to take some extremes but with a high enough grind to still cut pretty well.

The B 119 was one of my first larger knives...a loooong time ago :) , I'll never forget that knife and what all we went through together.

sweeeeeeeeeeeeeet :D

I have a lot happening right now, it may be a week or two.

Hmmm. You realize we don't stand on ceremony ... much ... around here, right?

Looks like a good design to me, "wherever it came from.":D;)

I'd certainly enjoy hearing what you think of it, now.

Nine years, and a lot of testing, later I wish I had strategically relieved the tang of a little weight the way I did it's smaller siblings to adjust the weight distribution. I wish I had toned that second finger groove down a bit. I wish I had thinned the handle just slightly, and I wish the grivory scales had been an option on this one. But I still like the way it handles and performs. I like that it has led to me having a centerfold of my designs in the Schrade catalog in my efforts to get better thought out knives with better ergonomics into the more affordable end of the knife market. And I am proud that this knife, the SCHF9, has worked its way to being the #1 best seller in fixed blade hunting knives on that big river place :)

There was a price drop recently and I picked up a 9 a WalMart today. It should not have been allowed to leave the factory, in my opinion. The tip grid was way uneven and the scales didn't fit properly. One of them looked too small to adjust to fit. I returned the knife before I left the parking lot.

I'm proud of my 42, 42d, and 55 so I am familiar with the level of quality that can be achieved in the price catigory. So, was the one I got a lemon or has quality control gone south?
