Well, I took yesterday off from work to finish these knives. Here is what happened.

Time to spend some time with files and sandpaper. This is my favorite part!

Ironwood. Man that stuff is pretty. (Horrid to sand and file though. It will clog a file so bad that you've got to soak it in oil for a day to get it clean. It laughs at my wire brush when I try to clean the file with it.)

Done, finish applied and drying.

Started practicing with the etching machine I built too. I'm glad I built it myself. Its too simple a circuit to buy, and some of these prices you see are stupid high.

OK. Here are the 4 finished EDC's. Top to bottom Blackwood, Goncalo (x2) and East Indian Rosewood. All lined with a 1/8" piece of osage.

Man, I've made 3 knives with Goncalo, and its become a favorite wood of mine. Its got a deep buttery beauty. Hard a snot though.

And here are 5 Nessmuks in (l to r) Ironwood (x2), Purpleheart and Osage, and Cocobolo (x2). The Ironwood and cocobolo knives sport a red liner.

Ironwood is gorgeous.

So is Cocobolo.

Thanks for Lookin!!!!!!!

Thanks Bob! What do you think of the JRE sheath? And the Mark too? What do y'all think?

I like those, really nice andy.

The JRE sheaths are awesome! They look very nice, I like your sheaths better, but im a sucker for your hammered leather texture. However, those JREs should save you a bunch of time!

As for the etching, its a good idea, but, I think its too big on the blade. Maybe just a FB on the blade, or etching your fiddleback spider would be sweet. I think anyway you go they are great! I would not let the etching keep me from scorin one, I just think it would be better smaller.....

Nice work bro! That ironwood is gorgeous!

Thanks Jimmy! Can't use a spider. Spiderco would sue me.

Yeah, youre right there dude. Spyderco wouldnt have that. Any way to just make the name smaller?

I think youre spider in your forge logo is differant enough that it wont resemble whatever bug spyderco uses, but im sure they would disagree!

Are they all spoken for or will they be hitting the for Knifemaker's for sale area?

Ideally, the mark will move to the spine. Still learning right now though.

Some of these will be hitting the Knifemakers for sale forum later this week. Most of the Nessmuks will go to complete the remaining orders for that model!

uurr..you forgot to tell us about the red one in the first photo..but the maker's mark looks and the sgeaths perfect pouch design for belt carry or simply add a clip for in the pocket.

Wow Andy, do you amaze yourself sometimes? Seems like you picked a particularly expressive batch of wood this time. All of those handles look like they take on widely ranging character depending on how the light hits them.

That Nessie looks as snug as a bug in the JRE sheath. Awesome, as always.

I think you mean the purpleheart one? Its the only wierd colored one in the batch. Glad you like them!

Wintermute, no. I don't impres myself. I try to get better with each batch though. I've still got a long way to go IMO. Its a fun process, this learning thing.

Andy,

That is a beautiful group of knives. What is the story with the second knife from the top in your first glass table photo. That shapely handle and thinner blade look to be a very nice combo!

THanks! That one is a one off. Its a trade knife I forged from a round 1/2" rod of 01 steel. Its a partial tang knife with a lacewood handle and blue G-10 spacer to match the blue liners. The pinhole didn't come out right on it. I'm going to sell it anyway this week at a discount with no sheath. Watch the makers for sale section for it!
