Everyone knows how important fire making can be whether camping, hiking or just playing around ...Warmth ,cooking food ,calming fears...keeping the boogey man away whatever.
Matches....I like 'em but I do not depend on them..easily can get damp or wet or while striking snap.... Easy flame comes but can also go...
Ferro Rod Great tool but everyone needs to learn a method that works for them some run the striker down the rod ,some pull the rod and keep striker steady... very versatile tool,I also pack two with me...simple lesson learned last year,I had a LMF Army model in back pocket, slipped on a rock crossing a shallow creek, went butt 1st into water and snapped ferro rod... still usable but harder to handle.
Lighters , I love 'em ...simple and easy.... I carry a Zippo on belt and keep a Bic on pack... but again I treat them like matches..
Here is a Drawer I have in my Garage & fire making contents.
