Everyone knows how important fire making can be whether camping, hiking or just playing around ...Warmth ,cooking food ,calming fears...keeping the boogey man away whatever.

Matches....I like 'em but I do not depend on them..easily can get damp or wet or while striking snap.... Easy flame comes but can also go...:D

Ferro Rod Great tool but everyone needs to learn a method that works for them some run the striker down the rod ,some pull the rod and keep striker steady... very versatile tool,I also pack two with me...simple lesson learned last year,I had a LMF Army model in back pocket, slipped on a rock crossing a shallow creek, went butt 1st into water and snapped ferro rod... still usable but harder to handle.

Lighters , I love 'em ...simple and easy.... I carry a Zippo on belt and keep a Bic on pack... but again I treat them like matches..

Here is a Drawer I have in my Garage & fire making contents.

Man I love those Zippos of yours. Especially the one with the old RAT logo.

The Zippo's are sweet the Triangle logo is my Favorite,I have two being I edc one in leather sheath and the others stay in zippo box in gun safe

Tony, you are SERIOUS addict! hahahaha Great stuff, man. You'll NEVER get caught unprepared!

RAT PAck # 177

Best thing is that it seems that each of the rods has been used at least once, so not just for show. And definitely easier than a friction fire (at least for me since I'm yet to manage to make one of those)

I tried alot of different fire making methods ,I dont care for the piston method and friction fire and me dont get along for some reason

I like the Ferro & Misch metal rods the best....

Man, if you can't make a fire, nobody ever could.

Those Zippo's are awesome looking.

How do you find using the long ferro rod, I would think it's almost too long?

Where did you get that RAT fire kit? The one on RATS site is $38 ....lol? Nevermind i found them at knivesshipfree for $30. Too much for me for a firesteel.

Tony your drawer looks the exact same as my ziplock gallon bag of fire starting/making materials. It's amazing how fast you aquire all this stuff.

I have a 1/2" x 4" has black capsule cap.... I really like it.... length does not bother me... :D
now if your talking about the ESEE firekit I added the 3/8"x6" rod too, I did it b/c I had a 6" rod lying around with no handle... Going to take it with me on my Next outting.... looks long and cumbersome but it throws showers of sparks raining down LOL I like it...

I also have a 3/8"x4" with Gray capsule handle and It works great... I like it too... :)

Geez, Glad I passed on the 12" Rod you'd freaked  ;) Now I must admit the 12" woulda been to much  LOL

cool :)
you could add a flint and a stone with some charred cotton cloth to the collection. Not as easy as a fire steel though, but just a little more primitive and the one step between firesteel and friction bow

I thought about it but that method does not interest me just yet... I am sure If $$ is right I'll snag a set :D

No dollars to it bro. Get you a file and a piece of chert rock and make your own char cloth.

yes ,I have the know how...but like friction fire just does not appeal to me enough to do it yet.... I like the Ferro or Misch rod the best :D

$$ I was referring to some kits I seen made up of the striker, flint w/cloth....

I love fero rods for the convenience.

But I got hooked on flint and steel and Bowdrills when I was an impressionable youngster. Now I do it just to prove to others it can be done.
