I went with Fire piston. That is what Flexxx wants, I thought I would back him up after all the whole thing was his idea an he will be doing the work.
Any Cal. option C does sound good.

I'm really down for whatever....

I love fire so anything that will start one is cool with me.

I can't wait to see what we come up with as a final blue-print, It will be awesome to see everyone using what we all created.

I'm a firesteel guy. I don't care what kind, as long as it's quality. I haven't tried the mischmetal yet, though. I will as soon as I get moved to our new place.

As much as I like the idea of the piston I think that when it comes down to it; if you are in a situation where you would need fire I think that firesteel would be a better choice. Well that and I think that a Becker handle firesteel would be cool. :D

Also I know from my own experiences in the rainy, cold, and damp Pacific NW that a fire piston ain't going to really cut it for me. There have been times when I have been in both the Washington and Oregon rain forests where I only got ignition by striking my firesteel at the tinder 50ish times, each strike warm it up some and drying it out more and more till it catches... If I had a fire piston I would have been screwed.

Don't get me wrong.... They are neat and I do like them but they are heavily dependent on bone dry perfect little tinder such as tinder fungus, and then they only make the tiniest coal.

I kind of view them as more of an item for say someone in the SW.

How about an option C for a real firesteel, the kind you strike with a chunk of flint.

Fire steel with the classic Becker handles. One of a kind !

Marketing:

"You've heard about, read about it, seen it on T.V. ... now available for the first time
to a very elite group ... the Becker Firesteel !!"

"Number one in your hearts, number one on the charts, ... who loves' ya babe, can you tell I used to work in radio"

Sometimes I just crack my self up ... NOT

I've got a Cape Buffalo horn piston but to be honest nursing an ember the size of a pencil eraser is tough work...a firesteel to me is more of a "shotgun" of fire, whatever can catch in it's path, does. Now, magnesium and a firesteel is like carpet bombing.

I have two firepistons as well as real flint and steel. A "firesteel" is much easier than both to me. They are even more reliable than matches
