Something that I was thinking, and I think has already been done, specifically with the blastmatch type things, is that when you strike a firesteel with say a knife, even if you hold the knife and drag the firesteel across it (or vice versa) right on your tinder, it still kinda goes everywhere. If a striker was integrated into a kind of tube it could help direct the sparks, and might be easier to manage. Imagine you got your firesteel, then you have a tube, open at each end, and at one end you have a flat striker type blade across it, and you pull the firesteel back from it, the sparks could then be aimed somewhat. Know what I mean?
I don't mind the 3D stuff, it isn't too terribly time consuming, but once I get going I tend to let the OCD do it's thing and that is all I end up doing for the next couple of days. Really try to avoid that, it gets on some peoples nerves, and I always end up having to put something else aside. If we can kind of come up with something beforehand I can sit down, make it, and be done with it instead of tweaking and redesigning it over and over and over with all kinds of weird and/or crazy modifications I dream up.
Plus I hate having to measure in imperial, it literally drives me batty, and going back and forth leads to lots of little issues and mistakes, so the less of that I have to do the better.
