Like most of you outdoor folk, I love Firesteels, fatwood, matchcases, and all the other stuff that goes with making fire. I'd like to see photos of your Firesteel set-ups. Firesteels (custom or production), strikers, your method of tying them together, firing making kits, etc.

Found this one on the Internet...

Kinda slow here in Indiana, so I'm lookin' for ideas to create a new Firesteel set. :D

Thanks!

My firemaking kit I recently put together (pretend the jute is dipped in beeswax)

C,

Why did you offset the holes?

TF

No particular reason. The handles a asymmetrical in shape, so I thought they looked better with an offset hole rather than centered. I like the thicker ferro rods you have in your pics. Been thinking about using those.

Aweome kits Rick, you do some great work! I love your blades.

Wow! You guys have really cool gear. Everything I own seems to be plastic or nylon without a shred. Very neat stuff.

My everyday set-up.

I like the way they look, with the firesteel into a piece of antler, if I wouldn't be using it. Might not stay in there so well after awhile. Life is too short to have an ugly striker.

I like this thread...it's giving me some ideas to use when I make my kit.

Nice work. Did you patina the Ted Cash tobacco tin with burnt blackpowder, or clean the laquer off and use it alot. I have one I have used for years, it's the silver one. I got a brass one for my son. Nice leather work.

They all have a patina of gun blue solution. Because I buy 30-50 at a time, I get entire runs of them prior to the laquer treatment.

Man you guys have some pretty fire making stuff!

Magnussen- your gear is on my wish list!! One day....

Any particular gun blue? Nice looking patina. What a great kit. They look well worn like an old tried and true friend.

Big Mike,
Who made that knife, looks the bees knees to me. Chris

That’s a custom from Bark River, the Big-Sky Camp Knife,

…7” blade of 12C27 combined with one of a kind dyed and dipped bone scales that I provided.

One of my favorite knives.

Couple quick shots of a mousey one with horrible lighting. I broke my light box.
