First HEST/F in Australia? Review and pics

In section 4 in the original post, the photo talking about the scales. It appears that the two locking surfaces are not ground with matching angles. Is this so or is that pic a bit deceiving?

If indeed the surfaces are at not at matching angles, then only the inner part of the frame lock is contacting the blade. This might very well be the cause of the unlocking under pressure.

Maybe some more pics of the locking surfaces will help.

I guess I can now ask the question I've been wanting to ask for a while in the (now closed) DPx forum without fear of retaliation. I recall Tomso (an associate of RYP) stating that he did the basic design and/or helped in the basic design of the HEST/F.

Does anyone know if Lionsteel utilized "the" design specs by Tomso or were the design specs "refined" by and at Lionsteel before actual manufacture?

I try and not post on HEST/F threads, because of all the weird stuff around it lately, but if i understood your question correctly, you asked if had something with the tip being exposed, and the answer is no. When or why this happened, i dont know, but it was later in production process, since the proto i have doesn't have that issue. And its not something i would just miss in CAD. But the issue is being resolved by RYP, so at this point, that is what really matters.
On my LE, i just sanded down the part of the stop pin (where blade rests on it in closed position ) and its perfect now. And no problems with the lock what so ever. For those with lock disengaging, perhaps gravity opening, since its quite more powerful then just thumb flicking, might mate surfaces better and quicker and potentially fix the problem...worth a try.

ESAV: Thank you. You were not the only one getting a migraine from all the noise.

RYP: I am really looking forward to getting my Sanitized LE. I plan on buying a production model when they are more readily available. If you would like to help me complete the trifecta, sell me one of the Mr. DP LE's that these jerks have returned or refused.. Thanks!

Get on with your lives and STFU! There, now you've heard it from someone who is not a mod. Whatever happened or did not, unless you are buying one of these, you no longer have anything to do with this thread, DPx Gear or RYP. Please stop making this hard on those of us who do. Thank you.

The entire first run of the DPx HEST / F is sold out. The waiting list is pretty long but if anyone knows a dealer who has some unclaimed ones we will let you know. We have another run lined up for Blade and some cool goodies to enhance your HEST/F in the next few weeks. The Gun Club and the 250 First Run Club will be getting some sneak peeks and first dibs.

All in all, a busy year

i haven't bought a new blade in more than a year; i don't really know or care about any issues, i'll pick up this model if i get an opportunity...i use the HEST fixed all the time and it would be nice to have its folder version...

Just a few more quick notes and responses. I've been carrying and using the knife everyday since i got it, about 2 and a half weeks I guess. The issues that I had were pretty minor excepting the lockbar. After tweeking it alittle here and there it now locks up very strong. The tip dosn't stick out and its a cutting son of a gun. If I had been unable to take care of the lock or tip I would have sent it back for repair with out any worry. Everyone that I have seen so far that has a problem has been either taken care of will be taken care of or has been given a refund. My questions have been answered reasonably even when I was pissed off and frustrated. I think the frustration stems from being so excited about the knife and the design as a whole, I really like the fixed blade version so of course I was pumped about the folder. All that crap is neither here nor there since I have it in my sweaty little paws.

Ok i took a few pics ...well just because.

Nice pictures cricket. Glad to see that you are enjoying your new knife. Could you post some pictures of the knife closed, with a shot of the tip section in the closed position?

Was your knife one that went back to Gianni or did you receive it in good shape "as is"?

Thanks.

I'd love to see a detailed review of your regular production model when/if you decide to get one.

Thanks

here is a pic with it closed, i had to polish a bit on the blade where it contacts the stop pin, not alot at all.

Can someone who owns one of the knives measure the actual cutting length and the overall length? It might be because of the extreme amount of belly, but it appears shorter than the stated dimensions. Perhaps a comparison pic with some common knives(Delica for example)?
Thanks.

not sure how you want the cutting legth measured, if you follow the edge is 3 1/4inchs overall length open is 7 3/4inchs plus or minus a tiny bit, my tape measure isn't great.

hope thats a help

Thanks, Tomso. You are correct. I was trying to drill down to where it may have begun but it's all water under the bridge. Unfortunately, I decided to cancel my LE Sterile order but I'm not finished with the HEST/F. I fully intend to get one or two production models once I hear some feedback. And I'm looking forward to them when it's time . . .

Thanks for the reply.
