First HEST/F in Australia? Review and pics

Gianni, Did you personally look over and "massage" the Limited edition models that went back to Italy?

Looking forward to receiving LE #20.

Despite some of the opinions posted here...nobody's warranty is voided. DPx Gear offers full no questions asked, customer satisfaction guarantee. Cricket Dave has my addy and "1234" knows we are only an email away: customerservice@dpxgear.com. Those who want to play with their HEST's and let them break in for a bit are welcome. No hurry. Yes the LE's are on their way and will go out as soon as we get them. I have three production models with me here and they work very nicely.

I apologize for not checking in from Africa we have been watching pirates.

Never learns... It's called "constructive criticism" It's not uncommon to have to work the bugs out of a product, it is uncommon to see someone repeatedly insult their potential customer base though.

From what I've been reading in the numerous threads the majority of those offering the most frequent and vocal "constructive criticism" have stated they do not and will not own anything made by RYP so how do you consider them a "potential customer base"? For the most part they are attempting to run down a product to "teach someone a lesson" and not out of concern for a better made knife.

The most beneficial "constructive criticism" at least IMHO would be that coming from actual owners of the product, wouldn't you say? I've yet to see any "constructive criticism" in your posts. Snide comments but nothing else. Practice what you preach?

One must ask why "1234", "BrennanScott" and a handful of uninterested, non owners spend so much time on this subject. If you gentlemen own a DPx product then you become part of a group that I very much listen to, but for now you are pretty much like the old guys in balcony. Without of course the sense of humor, script or intelligent adult moving your mouth.

Everyone is entitled to an opinion but like a barking dog...its just... barking. :))

This was a very well written, photo/info laden review. I've been curious about the knife and warranty, and this thread has been able to shed some light on that. It's headache inducing to see this turn into an internet soap opera.

This is giving ME a headache. Reading all this "criticism" from a "customer base" that is not buying the product is WAY OUT OF LINE IN A DISCUSSION FORUM ON KNIFE REVIEWS.

If you are not reviewing the knife, STFU.

I'm going to go through this thread and move all non-review posts to a separate gripe, whine, grumble, piss and moan thread.

Quick note on lock bar issues. It is not unknown for framelocks to behave erratically when new. Two possible ways to stabilize them are spine whack and hard opening.

While demonic assaults on metal parts are best performed while wearing a hockey mask, a firm spine whack or a hard opening may seat the framelock properly, eliminating the instability. Brisk metal-to-metal contact will groove the mated faces better and avoid future slipping.

Thanks Esav. Steve's review speaks for itself.

On the frame lock. My experience is that the tolerances are pretty tight and design to "settle in" with the inevitable wear between D2 and Titanium alloy. If you spend some time aggressively opening and closing the surfaces mate and form a slight patina from the wear. I have not experience either a week frame lock bend or lack of precision but if for some reason any of these don't work for you, we will take care of you.

I love the knife .....I have another one ordered. and look forward to future knives from them. .......... dj

Just a few more quick notes and responses. I've been carrying and using the knife everyday since i got it, about 2 and a half weeks I guess. The issues that I had were pretty minor excepting the lockbar. After tweeking it alittle here and there it now locks up very strong. The tip dosn't stick out and its a cutting son of a gun. If I had been unable to take care of the lock or tip I would have sent it back for repair with out any worry. Everyone that I have seen so far that has a problem has been either taken care of will be taken care of or has been given a refund. My questions have been answered reasonably even when I was pissed off and frustrated. I think the frustration stems from being so excited about the knife and the design as a whole, I really like the fixed blade version so of course I was pumped about the folder. All that crap is neither here nor there since I have it in my sweaty little paws.

Ok i took a few pics ...well just because.

You lucky bugger! I am still waiting on Linda and Gianni to give me the word when mine will be shipped to the antipodes.... I had sent the customs test illustrated from the latest isue of the Australian Hunter so that is probably holding things up, plus the issues so well reviewed here.
Thank you all contributors to the review - this could be the best folder made for the purpose designed - HEST !
Cheers in anticipation !

Wow..."STFU" from a mod...real class, quite a bit less than the people you're coming down on.
Way to go.

Sometimes it's the only way to get a message across. I saw no problem with it.

Nice pics, cricketdave! Hoping to have my Sterile LE soon.

cricketdave. If you want to send your knife in for its tune let me know I will even send you a loaner that you can abuse while we make your First Run knife perfect. Your concerns about the lock bar also concerns me because we haven't seen this yet and I want to get to the bottom of it. We want these knives perfect and we want satisfied customers. I am going to be on a plane for a couple of days but contact customerservce@dpxgear.com

best

And Esav is a classy mod. He knows the difference between steak and bullshit. Both come from a steer but taste very different. ;))
