First Impressions of Rambo IV Knife?

The knife looks like these 2 knives that I got in a small village in Indonesia. The guy that owned them hand made them out of scrap metal and teak wood; he used them for years to do everything from chopping coconuts open to butchering game before I traded him a leatherman them for the pair.

But the style of the blade is probably the most common type used in rural areas of Indonesia and other parts of Southeast Asia. Maybe Gill H. looked around at the styles of knives in Southeast Asia and chose this type

Or maybe he got the idea from Blood Diamond.

I just watched this film for the first time last night and the machete being used in the beginning of the movie looks exactly like the Rambo IV knife.

Anybody see "Rocky Balboa"?? My wife's first question upon seeing that movie: "why is he wearing mascara?" His face was coated with a thick cover of makeup. His ageless beauty is applied with a stick.

My sister-in-law works for Playboy and has met Sly Stallone several times. Your observations are correct, he wears as much makeup as the models.

and yes I get free Playboy magazines....but I only look at the pictures.

It has a somewhat home forged look to it too.
Though it sure has that classic rambo-style, sawback, big clip point, round handle(?)...

I think this one looks a lot better than the previous three. Sleeker, meaner, of course the second knife was my favorite but this one looks great. The machete is a little dissapointing though....

That looks like a Lile from either the first or second movie. If it appears in the new movie, it will probably be in a flashback scene or something.

The New knife is not a machete. More of a golok.

I think the knife is a big disappointment. What a crappy choice.
Like I said, they had to make a knife that wasn't difficult to make,
could be copied easily, and made from a cheap steel. That way the
aftermarket...umm...market would be that much better.

BTW, did he hit the gym for this movie or is he keeping his shirt on
this time? Or are they using technology like they did with Arnie in
that hideous Terminator 3?

I think the Golok style no nonsense blade in this movie is the best possible choice. Remember that the plot is based around Rambo living in seclusion in the jungle for years.....are some of you seriously expecting him to whip out a Busse or a highly polished Lile, or some huge mall ninja thing? It's not like he was equipped with all that junk and dropped out of a plane or something like in the other movies.

I think it's absolutely wonderful to honor bladesmiths and knife knuts here on the forums and everywhere else by having Rambo as a tribal style bladesmith, doing his own thing, and creating useful tools that suit his needs. This new crude, utilitarian, no nonsense knife captures the whole essence of the Rambo character.

By the way, the new knife was probably an idea of Stallone's to maybe honor the bladesmiths and knifemakers that he admires. Remember that a bladesmithing segment featuring Stallone forging a knife was cut from Rambo 3, so this was maybe a chance for him to get back to that idea. He is a knife knut like us, and also a member of Bladeforums who may be currently reading this. How about a little respect?

Also, some of you sound like the new knife should be chosen based solely on it's movie memorabilia reproduction value and marketability. If your choice of the movie knife is based on that, then I think that is totally lame.

I like the new knife, it looks like it is meant to be in the region, and I'd bet that it'd see more work than a hollow handled survival that most shops and sheeple refer to rambo knives.

Good on you Sly, makeup or no, I'd like to look like him at 60

It's nice to see that Sly is back with Brigitte Nielsen again, although the years have not been kind to her.

Together in real life? Who would want anything after Flava Flave was done with it? I always thought she was icky before though.

And ya, disappointing knife.:(

As much as I pick on Sly (and I do), I really enjoy his movies and his work ethic. Cool looking knife, I hope he makes a bundle on the movie, I'll go and see it!

That's 61 year old, Sylvester Stallone, who is in better shape than probably 95% of everyone on this forum. :p

Amazing what steroids will do.....

Looks like it might be a good movie.
