hey all,

Here is a first look at the upcoming collaborations between KAI and Emerson Knives. They will all feature Emerson's patented wave opening feature with a few liner locks and full FRAMELOCKS!!! I will add details to this posting as I get them for you.

First up the Kershaw collaborations. These will be import models featuring 8cr13mov steel. They have steel framelocks with the wave feature. They also have opening disks for tose that prefer that opening method. These are all designed by Ernie Emerson, they are unproduced designs seeing the light of day for the first time. They will be getting the full Kershaw production treatment, which means great quality and an excellent price. There will be several sizes and color combos available...check these out:

Dude, you guys and your updates/first looks are just killing me!!! Just when I make a plan to start saving up, you guys blow my mind and I gotta crunch more numbers. I can't handle this roller coaster of emotion :D Those olive and coyote tan models are great!

I would expect nothing less from the man himself, what excellent designs! If there are Emerson/ZT collaborations coming, I may just faint.

get your meds ready and Dr on call....cuz my next post is gonna blow your mind!!!

I'm just curious why everybody beats the piss out of Boker for using 440C on their value knives but I rarely hear anyone complain about KAI using alphabet steel on everything.

Probably because the Bokers are 2x more $$$.

There are pics of the ZT on Facebook from a vendor. Looks great. I would post the pics but they aren't on the vendor list.

Cheapo Emersons I guess way under $100 with 8CR13MOV steel and made in China. Not my thing but you have to hand it to KAI for all the new inexpensive stuff when compared to say Benchmade and Spyderco. Kershaw is owning the low end unless there are stuff from say CRKT and Boker.

Not really though...for every Kershaw in the $50-$100 range that uses 8crwhatever there is a Boker Plus that uses 440C.

Just curiosity more than anything, I don't have an allegiance to either brand.

I can only imagine the street prices on these things. The smaller ones (CQC-1, 2, 3) remind me of his "Snubby" design. Should be legal to carry anywhere you go!

Still, it's the CQC-5, 6, and 7 that are REALLY calling my name!

Way too small IMO. Only one 3.5" blade in the bunch? I see that CQC-1K and think it has to be a 4" blade, then see it's got a 3" and the entire knife is less than 7" open?

I'm going to say that street price on these will be under $60, most likely less. The new Camber is $135.95. Street price on that will probably about around $110-120, and that uses S30V. Plus, you don't get the shotty quality that Boker has.

the steel issue is due to the materials available at the manufacturer. Since the kershaw line is made in china they are limited in what steels are available to be used. 8cr13mov is by no means a bad steel...plenty of spyderco fanatics have been using it for years, so why Kershaw gets all the guff is beyond me.

The boker question, i believe, comes up because they tend to use premium handle materials and 440c steel....seems odd when so many other steels are available that shouldnt add much to the cost...but thats another disucssion for another thread.

in any rate these are going to be some great knives and the first Emerson entries to the value market....which by the way is many times larger that the membership on this forum. remember, we are the minority in the knife world:-)
