[FIRST LOOK] ZT 0566 (or, so you wanted a smaller 0560?)

Already setting aside the funds to pimp this blade!! (sorry to my 560, I had high hopes for "us", before the 566 caught my eye and turned my world around..) ...tragic love story xD.

Pimpage plans:
> Orange G-10 scales
> Remove SpeedSafe assisted opening
> Get a sweet skull lanyard

Maybes:
> Ti standoffs if they become available
> One of those bullet casing lock bar stabilizers or perhaps a Ti one..

...and not sure about this one..what do you guys think about adding a finger choil to the blade? Would the sacrifice of cutting edge be justified by the cutting control a finger choil can provide? I use the choils on my spydercos often when doing precise cutting

I personally don't care for choils. If I have a need for delicate work, I would opt to use my CRKT KISS which I always have on me as I use it as a money clip. Or I would choke up on a larger blade and hold it similar to a pair of chop sticks, pointer finger on the spine with the thumb and middle finger pinching the knife just behind the edge. But thats just me :)

I'd like to have this and a "wave" mod I've seen, on my 561, but I'm pretty sure it would void the warranty. Will probably have to wait until I can afford a blem. I don't think I'd add an extra choil to the 566, it's already almost as small as a Zing.

I'd like to wave all of my knives over 3.5 inches. I think it's the best opening gadget there is for a number of reasons, and would expect to see it used on many production knives as a standard once the Emerson patent goes off.

anyone know the ballpark release date of 0566 awesomeness? 16 pages of posts is too many for an ADD like myself to sift through looking for a nugget. figured i'd just go the easy route and ask. thanks in advance!

(and no, i'm not talking about an "it'll be june 26th, 2:24 pm." there are ALWAYS tweaks and updates and delays on release dates on knives. i'm just curious if anyone knows the ballpark - summer-ish, christmastime-ish, early 2014-ish?)

Q3 2013 is the estimated release.

This looks like a great size. I find the 0560 a little big to carry around with me as an EDC. Just personal prefrance though. I would be very interested in this though. Don't like waiting at all. Sweet looking blade but the black G10 appears a little mundane. Would have to appy a custom scale to it :D

ditto. Rival (Rival1314) makes awesome G10 scales. i've got one of his on my 551. looks good, fits great, feels great. i'll be bugging him for sure once these hit the market.

you paying attention Rival? Green/Black. make sure you've got some in stock come 3rd quarter :)

Definitely something more practical than the 0560. Glad they are finally listening. I pretty much gave up and never come to this forum because ZT was all about being a large tough guy knife and could not make something smaller. In the end, the market will always have the last word. Have to see how successful this will be for them though. Already have mine reserved! Thank you!

I sure wouldn't call the 560 a heavy knife, especially for the size. And I'm amazed that they got the weight of the 566 down to 5.3 oz given that it's got a steel locking scale. They must've skeletonized the heck out of it. That said, after messing around with my CRKT Eros for a bit just about everything seems heavy. I think that thing has negative gravity.

Won't the speedsafe limit the aftermarket scales?
