First post - How did I do on my first custom knife?

Like the look of the knife I think $65 is a good price for the knife. If you know the maker tell him to get a makers membership here and start showing his wares.

Don't know him and have never even talked to him, though I have seen his name mentioned on here when I did a search. I did all my looking online and I just checked Google again and found him mentioned on another forum positively. I also found him linked as a maker on some other sites so he can be found.

No offense, but after the amazing welcome I got, I would recommend no one here. I read on other forums here how everyone is so nice and it's "folksy" and I got reamed. No polite "hey you might take down the links noob" or anything, just everyone accusing me of lying.

I truly appreciate all the honest replies here though, that was nice anyway. Thanks Chiller2.

Someone else can contact him, I'm sure as heck not touching that with a ten foot pole. Pull him in under this stigma I think not. Those that know who it is can see he's plenty legit by a few searches. If they think they should they can contact him, not me.

you only got a couple negative replies, and there are many many members and users here.

give it a chance, lurk a while, and you'll see.

and i like the knife. looks like a great edc.

I would agree though, you did get a little bit reamed, but most members come to the forums with questions, and most spammers come to the forum with praise for a certain manufacture, you definitely pulled what is commonly a spammer move, but not always, as for sharpening I have had excellent luck with Syderco's White Ultra Fine Ceramic Stone with my D2 BM 156CSK.

Hey Dblagent, forget these guys and their "suspicions." You dont need to explain to anyone. Its a cool knife. How do you like it? As long as you like it and are happy, like Slamfire said, thats all that matters.

Rest assured you are not alone ,I found a picture of a knife I liked and decided to make one a little bigger and made out of Titinium,I tried to email the person to see if he would mind if I posted a picture of the one I was making and received no reply ,went ahead and posted my picture and got jumped on big time ,one mod gave me a serve then locked the thread so I couldn`t reply.

Great knife you have, enjoy.

Well, thanks to all of you who were nice, I really appreciate it. It does appear to be a top down attitude around here as a Mod had the same basic attitude. I know every forum has it's own "feel" and this one is just different than most that I have joined. I can think offhand of about 20 forums that I use and this was the first reception like this I have gotten and I'm no noob to the internet. Nothing I can do about it now, but still kinda irks me ya know?

I try to lurk and read first so as not to ask the same newbie questions that everyone asks as I know that gets old quickly. If you just read for a while there is no need as almost everything has been asked before. I did not lurk long enough here it seems.

65535 - thanks, I have seen that the Spyderco sharpeners are recommended quite a bit on here and have been looking at them. Nice to hear that it dorks well with D2 also.

Hotrod - Nice to see another Indiana based member here, I am down south in Bloomington myself.

Thank you Keith, it helps when a member with 20,000 posts at least recognizes the work and knows who it is. I had looked online and though I had seen some reviews I found no information here and thought users would appreciate the info also. It is how I research products normally, so I thought I'd help any others that were ever looking for information in the future. Sharing info is what a forum is for after all.

I can relate, but with each forum, you just jump in and see if you float. You posted this in the GB&U, and Customs MIGHT have been a better place to start. There are so many sub-Forums here that it can be confusing sometimes.

It is a good looking knife, and very reasonably priced.(+). I have had horrible results with bead blasted D2, vastly preferring a belt satin finish, if these are the choices offered, as the steel WILL rust, and bead blasting results in a greater opportunity to do so(-).

If you stick around, you will read some postings from some of the most knowledgeable and passionate people in the community.

Welcome to the Forums.

Best Regards,

STeven Garsson

Thanks for the welcome, at least I can only go up from here! :D

I talked to him about the steel types before I ordered as I was still not sure what to get. I decided on D2 though he told me about the possibility of rust, it is not as common as what I can get in folders and I wanted to try it. When I get a "fancy" one I will get polished stainless. I am planning to use the same silicone cloth I wipe down my firearms with and see how it goes.

I suppose if I had posted a knife from a maker that was known here, or a major brand, people might not have jumped to conclusions so fast. Seeing as they had not heard of them they assumed the worst and I can kinda see that. Just don't jump so darn fast! :) My future on these forums will be much quieter I hope... Maybe should have been in customs also I guess. Things to remember for next time/next forum. I will stay around so I will see you all from time to time. Just more reading. ;)

Time will tell if its a spammer or not. As of now I would have to say I "might" of jumped the gun.

As for the knife spam or not, it's a great deal. It did sound like a spam post at first, and still could be. For now I will :foot: , and give you a nice cool guy smilie

And if you keep quacking like a duck, then my friend we must call you a duck!

O yeah, welcome to the forum. And spam is a problem round here, so its why the mod was suspicious too.

Interested by the rust aspect on D2.

Why is it that bead blasted supports rust better than belt satin or polished?

Think he did get a bit of a whacking for a first post, maybe we should say it's a weird initiation test:D
