First Rifle Question

After hearing about this, my dad promptly took me shooting and taught me gun safety. Made me a believer that kids really need to learn it young. And adults need to remember it from time to time!

Sounds to me that your father knew the one cure for ignorance is education.

Now if we can find a cure for stupid...

That sounds great, Cliff. You learned from the ground up how a modern cartridge works because you built your own with older technology. I miss my Cabela's Walker I used to have.
Sure was a lot of work cleaning though.

J&G Sales just announced they are selling Yugoslavian SKS's for only 89 bucks. That's in simple good condition with some finish wear on the stocks.

i would suggest a marlin model 60--i have had mine for years--added a full size 4x fixed power scope-swivels and sling--has never jammed and never let me down--has taken hundreds of small game--have loved this rifle since the day i bought it--at wally world no less--LOL  :)

1) CHEAP TO SHOOT
2) ya don't have to have a range to shoot one ( some have adjustable power so even urban and suburban use it good , with proper back stop of course)
3) become a better shot, because you can shoot more often, I did 2 years of
20-40 rounds a day practice and got really big improvements.
4) A good one isn't cheap but it will shortly pay for itself if you shoot often

www.airgunsofarizona.com check out the daystate harrier x2 , I have
a AA310E and it shoots far better than I can... I think the harrier would shoot even better, with a synthetic stock .

I also believe in getting the most accuarate rifle possible, that way you can't blam the gun , it's all your fault, acceptance is the first step to improvement.

I agree that an airgun is the safest, cheapest, quietest solution. Unless you live in the country where you can shoot in the back yard, an airgun will let you practice at home with a minimum backstop. Twenty rounds every day probably beats 140 rounds once a week. Or 4200 rounds once a month
I was having a lot of fun with a soft air pistol for a while. It shoots plastic ball about 1/4" diameter and at 15 - 2o feet is pretty accurate. I think I paid $25 from Cabellas. It's a Walther P99, which I was thinking about for real back then.
