Fishing, and hunting reports (share yours)

Hog problems are a blessing for guys like us and a curse for the landowner. I haven’t been able to go in quite some time but I really enjoy getting close to them during the day.

375 H&H 😃

I wish I could help. I’ve got access to a little bit of land here in southern OK but they’re not always around.

Good luck with your search.

Good to see another open sights man 😎

Great fun  I like to see the whites of their eyes if possible. The challenge of getting close is very rewarding to me. Hope to make it to Oz one day for buff in the NT

Do it, great fun. Scrub bulls are even more exciting.

When I hunted buff I took my caplock muzzleloader. That got the heart pumping!

If you make it down south hit me up, might be able to find a red or fallow.

I'm strictly hunting the hogs for meat, so I tend to hunt at night using thermals. I'll take any advantage when the goal is gathering meat.

Get some chickens in the yard and you will have plenty of other opportunities. They were coming out of the woodwork when we had chickens.
My aunt had chickens (I shot the bobcat on her property) and all of them got killed by opossums or hawks. She has some big dogs not sure if they kept the cats away. I've been thermal hunting out there for coming up on four years and that was the first one I've seen out there. I live in a suburb of Dallas and get them all the time in my yard.

Slow but fun day out with the 4wt yesterday. Urban fishing in Dallas creeks near our house. All the fish are on beds. Got a few defensive hits from angry largemouth bass but no takes. Finally pulled a few hybridized bluegill out of a deep pool. The other one was even smaller than this🤣. Catch and release with the Viper and a favorite glass rod.

In another thread, Hatchet_Jack Hatchet_Jack requested photos from a prior trip to South Africa. I went in 2015 with a group of family and friends, back when I was much skinnier. Beautiful country, good people, and impressive fauna. Here are some of my high notes.

Zebra (I should hope this one was obvious, but ya never know)

My PH was actually Australian by birth, but grew up in SA. He served in the military through more than one bush war, then was a game ranger in the bush for several decades. Lots of stories and beautiful rifles. My life has been so easy by comparison.

Greater Kudu

The tracker on the far left worked on the particular game reserve I hunted on that day, didn't really get to know him. The fella in the middle was the tracker/skinner that went everywhere with the PH and I. Great man with sort of a tragic story: he was overqualified to become a PH but he was functionally illiterate, so he wasn't allowed to get his license. Among other talents, he would skin massive animals with only a cheap filet knife.

Saw lots of other incredible sights and creatures along the way and ate my weight in Biltong and curries. I'll go back someday when I have a few extra sacks of money to burn.

Looks like a great trip mate!

I grew up reading every African hunting book I could find. It’s such a beautiful part of the world and the era of white hunters still fascinates me to this day.

It was always my dream to go on a tracking eland hunt. I’ve kinda lost the urge to hunt Africa but I still enjoy seeing what others get up to.

What’s the black and white stripey horse thing? 😁

Incredible photos of the SA hunt oldmanwilly oldmanwilly I would like to know more details some day. Are the Kudu and zebra still common to hunt? Not even the same universe and not going to compete with that but I do like to get out with a fly rod. Texas largemouth bass are always fun. This is in a friend’s neighborhood pond in Dallas a few weekends ago. IMG_9640.jpeg

Everything is exotic to someone. I'm very excited at the prospect of cashing in my chips and hunting the states in the next couple of years. To many american hunters elk, mule deer and antelope might be a bit vanilla but to me it's otherworldly!

Nice fish, are bass any good to eat?
