I net baitfish and cast'em out. Then catch a blue runner, jack, bluefush, etc.. around 1-2 lbs. Then I hook that onto my heavy rod/reel (Penn 6/0 with 50yd a topshot of 125lb test) Then I pitch the bigger bait right next to the rocks and hold on. I use a "knocker rig" which means that I have an egg sinker that slides right up to the eye of the hook to make it drop quickly.

As far as snook on pike gear, its ok from a sandy beach if there are no obstructions. But if you're near rocks with current, you have to fish heavy gear. Otherwise when the big one comes, you'll get dumped on.

I like all the different fish from the different areas . Maybe some day Ill get to fish some salt water,mountain streams, Canadian lakes ... but for now ill keep catching Missouri species.

I just got my wife a new used boat. 1996 Lowe deck boat set up for fishing , so ill probably be catching fewer fish. The smaller lakes around here have better fishing than the big one {Mark Twain lake } .

I have met some mighty fine fishermen from Missouri...or mighty fine story tellers.
Either way, plenty of fish to be had around the continent. This has been a great year for fishing for me, every day on he water is a good day

Nice! Man, I have been trying to land a brown but with no luck...hopefully this fall...
You must be doing something right! A family of fisherpeople...
 
It's one of my sons ex-girl friends. She pestered me to take her fishin, so we went. Sullie, go at night and use a Mouse pattern.;)
Fish in flat water above a BIG pool. Theyz out huntin. Slow drift across if there is much current, short 2-3" quick strips if the water is quite slow.

Thanks for the tips but unfortunately browns are not native to my area and hard to come by. In hoping to make some trips a little south for some fishing...my wife and I have been fishing for every anneversary and she isn't opposed to the idea so it's not too far fetched.
Any hotspots will be much appreciated!
 
finally, a decent size bass since May. caught 6 smaller 1.5#s after this one. great day on the kayak.

 
Nice Bass!! I hit a lake yesterday that was badly effected by Super Storm Sandy two years ago, but it is coming back now. I got a bunch of pan fish and a few small bass. There is a spill way at the end of the lake that flows into the bay where the lake runs off meets the ocean, and the white perch would not stop biting!! I stopped at 50 since I got tried of unhooking them and throwing them back! Fun day!
 
Unexpected catch
A was fishing for panfish with my tenkara rig at a local park. I always throw out a catfish bait on a cuban hand reel caught this guy on the bottom with nightcrawlers

Bought a used 1998 , 22 foot lowe deck boat. First time fishing in it today . This is the 1st and only fish caught.
