Fishing "survival" skills practice

I've often seen fishing gear included in various versions of PSK's and BOB's.

As with a lot of things, success isn't so much about what gear you have but rather how its used. Knowledge that is built up through experience (ie time on the water)

So who likes to fish, I know I do :D in both fresh water....

And then there's ice fishing ! Here's how they do it in Michigan.I wonder what kind of filleting knife they used !

Im probably the best fisherman who ever lived.

Then I hope those werent pics of your "A" game. HAHAHa
I am not the best fisherman in the world- only the best looking!

Nothing like a fishing topic to pull me out of lurking.

You obviously missed my pic;)

Seriously though.

Rooster Fish; I think I have seen you post those before .... And I will never get tired of looking at them! Great haul!!!

Oakietree ... I regularly dive for rock lobster and blacklip abalone but don't have any photos yet, never really thought of it.
I like the one you've got there.
We had an abalone ban for about 8 years here on the lower east coast but it ended last year.
I LOVE abalone! One of my most favourite ocean foods
Mate ... love those dolphin fish too (mahi mahi), we get here them too, they are on now.

You guys have some awesome pictures of some great looking fish. I'll make any one of you a bet. I'll bet you $20 that I can outfish you in your favorite fishing hole!!

Any takers???

Careful Matt, I may show up on your doorstep. It would be well worth the $20 to get a shot at fish like the ones you posted up.

I'm envious.

You are seriously welcome anytime. I have mainly been kayak fishing and freediving the Ft Bragg area of Ca lately. Its inexpensive. They shut down Salmon this past year and we are waiting to see for this year. Rock fish season varies but generally covers mid summer. If your out this way drop me a line. I got an extra kayak. Your not afraid of great whites are you?

Matt

G'day Theedge

Did you eat those carp?!?

I did take a couple back to give to a friend who eats them, but I didn't keep any for myself because I haven't found a way of preparing/cooking them that removes the muddy and weedy taste they have from this dam.

This dam has a muddy floor. As you can see from the pic below, the carps feeding habbits of vacumming the bottom and filtering food out of the sediments is what gives Carp caught in this dam a muddy taste.

If anyone can let me know of any proven ways of removing the muddy taste from them, I'd glady take home enough for several feeds

Kind regards
Mick

Matt, I haven't been to CA in years but seeing fishing like that makes a guy want to visit. Great whites? I doubt your talking aboiut some kind of really impressive white bass. Nah, they have never scared me before.......of course I've never been paddling around in a little plastic boat that looks like dinner while they swim around underneath me.

You Cali guys are all a bit nuts ya know that?

It takes more than 20 bucks to get my favorite fishing hotspots out of me :D

Oakietree! Curdog here... I NEED to get out to fish with you one of these days!

You're a shrewd businessman SDS. :D

Thirty bucks and a bottle of Pappy Van Winkle 15 yo and you might have a deal ;)

Of course, the next question is, are any of my spots actually worth that much?
