Fitness "Spartan" Beckerhead GAW discussion thread.

Okay I've downloaded a 100 pushups app so I get reminders to actually do them. Going to do the test thing tonight!

EDIT: Oh man I took a video and it's super embarrassing.... contemplating posting it anyway for accountability....

We all need to start somewhere Cap! Forget posting where you start, its all about where you end up! In six weeks or so, show us the video of you doing 100 of em in a row!

When I started I could barely squeeze out 25 in a row, I've been at it since the start of this thread and I made it to 60 the other day. I get help from my kids if they are around when I'm doing it lol. They like to ride on my back as I do the program. Sometimes I can't make it all the way through but its still fun. I know my wife got a video of that the other day, I'll get her to send it to me and I'll try to post it up hehe.

Well... I can't do 1 yet.. so I'm hoping I can do one by the end of the challenge >.<

But yeah, we all gotta start somewhere :) You should post your video!

Got them!

Here is part of the warm-up with my youngest on top (between 25-30lbs):

Here is all 3. The youngest wasn't happy his big brother was hanging onto him (pardon the unhappy baby). That's my 5 year old (42lbs), 3 year old (35lbs), and the youngest on. She caught my last 3 (I think), I remember he telling me she was going to start lol:

Man, Tim....I don't think I'd get one with a 14 and 10 year old on my back....they prolly weigh in at 180 pounds, combined. Cool videos, tho. Good onya.

Good onya for giving it a go, Cap! I think you'll be surprised how much improvement you'll see if you keep at it. Also very brave of you to post video....but inspiring as well.

Cap, looks good to me. The point of that workout is to get you to exhaustion. So, doing it until you can't get back up again should get you pretty fast results.

TBL, that looks a lot harder, not gonna lie. I wonder how your kids would like it if you were doing clap pushups (or if that would even be possible).

I think I may join y'all for this challenge too, just for fun/pain. I'm going to put the official thread up before the 31st, because I expect to be far too busy on the 31st proper. Which means I should probably do a pre-test sometime soon here. Hope to see some good results from you all if we can all stick with it.

Well I'm impressed!! That's super awesome.

Brave or stupid! not sure which yet... XD But thanks. I hope to at least have some sort of improvements to show off later.

Yeah. I was thinking maybe I should try doing couch ones instead? Something to get my body used to being straight instead of bent at the knees?

Glad to hear you finished. Don't forget to do your end of the week max test. How many you get determines which column you'll do for week 2. Getting to be about time. We'll get this going officially in about a week.

Looked through the program ('cause you had me panicked, LOL) but the max test only comes at week 2, as near as I can tell. No mention of doing it after week one.
At the end of Week 2 it will be time to check your strength and perform an exhaustion test.
Nothing like that for the end of week 1, thank goodness.

I'd stick with knee pushups, but you can build form faster by pulling your toes up off the ground. Then work on keeping that position straight. Couch pushups if you need to, but if you can do knee pushups with your knees bent and toes up, I think that will serve just fine too.

Whoops, my mistake.

Lol thanks guys,

Heh CF I may be able to get one clap push up with them like that... but they would all fall off. With them up like that I have to be more controlled or they throw off the balance and fall haha.

Hey Cap, I know you said you were going to steer away from the abdominal work in your video, but:

Maybe try some planks:thumbup:

My wife has started to try this one here;

Hmmm, planks would be good. Lots of muscles involved with planks.

I have no issue with choils.......i'm ok if a blade has one, i'm ok if it doesn't.

Did my starting points today, finally. I'm at 10 pushups and 8 situps. May have been able to crank out a couple more of each, but Becker (my dog) kept diving under me on pushups and jumping on/over/around me on situps. That, in itself, will be a challenge imbedded in said challenge.

I'm also impartial to choils.

The wife caught me doing my after- dinner planks. My kids, always trying to help. She took this after the youngest crawled off (I was near the 45sec mark).....I swear they just might be trying to kill me...or make me stronger. I don't know yet.

Nice! I think planking might have to be worked into my to do list. I'm sore from pushups though, that's for sure! (And I don't even have kiddos climbing on me!)

I'm sore from them, too...and if the kiddos climbed on me, I'd have broken arms.....as it is, I'm gonna finish out the week in column three, but....tho I've been able to do the main sets, I haven't been able to do as many as the MAX at the end says I should. Fallen short on both days so far, tho not by much. Still....I'm guessing when I do my max test at the end of the week, I'll end up in column two for week three.

Did my max test the other day and pretty much fell straight on my face after 61 lol.

I'm in the same boat as you Mike. I can complete the workout, but for the last set to the max I can only make it one or two more then the previous set. Keep at it, we'll get there!

Thanks for he encouragement....but I am old and weak not as young as I once was and I am DEFINITELY feeling the years under my belt (as well as the ones above my belt). I fear you will have to leave me behind....;).
Plus, I just got home after a 12+ hour day and am taking some internal pain killer (malt beverage(s)) - and tonight is (supposed to be) my third workout of week 2.....so I may be a little, erm.....relaxed? when that happens. Plus I've committed to go (indoor) rock climbing with my girls tomorrow.....and tho I don't think any of them will want to belay me, I might do a little bouldering to see if I can really ruin the pecs/deltoids/lats.
