Recommendation? Fixed blade EDC knives reccomendations?

Do you have any first hand knowledge of this? OP said the same thing about certain guns and their modifications and it was thoroughly debunked by actual court cases. It seemed logical but the circumstances were the deciding factor. Now what comes out of your mouth is a different thing altogether, gotta watch what you say closely
I won't get into details.
But according to laws in my country you can carry a knife legally if you have no intention of using it to cause bodily harm or use it as a weapon, spring assisted knives, and anything with knuckles or any double edged blades are illegal to carry.

And if you do happen to carry a knife - if there's justified reason for it - it's good. But it's harder to justify carrying a large knife. And if you say "self defense" - they will question you what kind of places do you visit so you need that? What job you do?

Do let's say you're coming home from work and group of "ultras" who just watched football start to harrass you which club did you root for or to recite their anthem... you have no idea about anything since you don't watch football so you tell them to f*ck off. Then bigger guy gets physically agressive and you stab him several times with a screwdriver. And other 3 guys run away in fear...

So later, you see your screwdriver handed to the judge and lawyer of the asshole you stabbed asks the judge "What kind of people walk around with this? Is there any need for it? What was the intent of young man carrying such an object?".
So, the idiot who tried to beat you up is playing the victim.

But you realize that it's rather dumb question from them, and you just say how it is:
"I'm electician. I work at construction site, I was going home from work when he attacked me with his drunken friends".
And your defense hands them the same thing that was written in police report and also checked.
It's logical that electrician will have a screwdriver.

Then, they try to claim that you provoked the group of drunken idiots, but lucky for you - judge isn't having any of it.

And you walk out as a free man.

I know it sounds logical but do you have any proof of this? Not trying to be contrary, but the same thing was said about Punisher grips on your pistol and tricked out pistols etc etc. It was thoroughly debunked by actual court cases, when you really think about it the circumstances of the event are most important in the courts(thank God).

Let me put it another way. I have to use my push knife to protect myself and it is agreed in court I had the right to do so. Now that would be a definite felony(with years in jail at least)if I did wrong. Do you believe a jury/judge would convict me because I used a legally carried push knife in legal self defense? Never heard of it happening(again thank God). Now if there is documented cases I would rethink my position.

Circumstances are important, I agree. But in my country they can take your large fixed blade away if they see you carrying it on city square for example. And entering bars with one is illegal.

There is a thing like using excessive force. Which they also can try to use on court.

If there's multiple attackers or if the guy is much bigger than you - it won't be an issue.
But if things are unclear and you can't prove he's the one who is attacker then you have an issue.

For those reasons I tend to limit my EDC to 4 inches. And other reasons are facts that smaller knife is less noticeable and much easier to conceal. It's also more socially acceptable.

Back when I carried Drop Forged Hunter police officer saw it once when I was looking for driving license, he asked me to give it to him so he can take a look. He just smiled and said "Cold Steel, nice one." and handed it back to me. But I could see on his look that he really liked the knife :D

And there is another story from my country about the guy who got 500€ fine and a knife taken away because it looked a lot like "Rambo knife" and police had a reason to think he's carrying it for road rage cases.

I see. But in my country it's not tehnically legal to use a knife as a weapon. It's complicated. Push knife isn't legal to carry here either.

If you however convince them that a knife is your tool that you had to use as a weapon - you are good to go.

Understood, what a bummer!
Stay safe and well!

Since double edged knives for example are seen as a weapon - I can't even carry one.

I can still carry normal fixed blades (not too large) and they will pass just fine as a tool.

And using regular tool in self defense, like screwdriver for example is easiest thing to justify, especially when part of your profession is carrying one.

But all in all - physical fitness will play bigger role in a fight than a weapon, and also knowing what are you doing.

Pretty lucky(especially in California)that I can carry any length/type of fixed blade as long as it is in a sheath mounted on your waist. Folders have to be in your pocket no size limits. That is the state, cities/counties can and do go further(especially the big cities).
Better to run away if you can, most people have no idea how to use a knife properly in a fight.

Yeah, I even said in one post up that I'm trained to fight without a weapon so it's questionable how much benefit would a knife give me.

But at other hand you don't have to be a genius to land a stab or two. Especially on someone under influence or if they are overconfident.

But in case your attacker has some skill and manages to take your weapon - then you have a problem.

Escaping fights is the best option, and pepper spray is also a nice thing to have. It can save you from court visits.

Sooo I pulled the trigger on it today (earlier than I thought).
And it will probably be shipped at monday.

I wanted to return the favor to my friend who found the deal for Warcraft Tanto, but he went the other way.
He ordered himself an Esee 3 from local (European) site and is about as excited about it as I'm excited for my knife.

I might try to get him registered on here :D

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts, and seeing pics!

Yeah, I'm only worried about the sheath though.

I might make custom sheath for my other 2 knives too.

I noticed that I have to be extremley careful to always press spine of the blade to the sheath and not the blade, I noticed that even one wrong pull can dull my Recon Tanto badly. So now I'm also concerned about carrying it.

I forget where I saw this now, but someone (maybe cedric and ada) tested the edge retention after drawing the knife out over and over. It takes tens of draws to noticeably dull the knife. I don't know about you, but I touch up my knives after use, anyway, so it's a non-issue for me. All sheaths dull the knife to some level. I think this whole "secure-ex dulls my blade" is more hype than anything.

I don't know why, but I only noticed this recently.

I also have a habbit of sharpening and then oiling my knives after each use. I know that all sheaths will somewhat dull the blade, but it was shocking to me to see that a knife which can shave hair - can no longer shave on most parts after just one bad pull.

Secure-ex has glass fibers in it, and glass fibers will dull your blade very easily. Cold Steel isn't only brand which uses such sheaths either, Ka Bar for example had such issues too.

I know that Kydex will dull the knife too, but it won't do that anywhere near as fast and dramatic like something filled with glass fibers.

I don't have the SRK-C any more. While I had it, I never sharpened it. Sharpness stayed the same as far as cutting paper. I probably took it out at least 30 times. I was careful, and never purposely dragged the edge. Your new knife looks very cool. Please enjoy!

Awww man, what happened with your SRK-C?

Pete from Cedric and Ada confirmed that Secure-Ex does dull your knife (as shown by the kniferoscope). In the weeks I’ve had my Recon Tanto, I’ve taken it out of its sheath quite a few times but I make a conscious effort not to grate the edge against the sheath. So far, I haven’t noticed any dulling when I do the paper test. I know this isn’t exactly scientific, but I thought it’d be worth sharing. :D

What new knife did you get, S Smiling ?

Waiting for CS Mini Pendleton Hunter in 3V :)

And I'm always also making effort to press the spine against the sheath. But in an emergency or stressful situation you might not remember to do that or you won't be composed enough for it, so you'll pull out a dull blade. I love Cold Steel but what is right is right, and glass inside sheath is something I would like to see change.

I agree bud. Other than the dulling issue, I think the Secure-Ex is a fantastic budget hard sheath. I really like the positive snap when resheathing and the lashing holes and slits. A Secure-Ex Mark 2 without a glass interior would be nice.

Hey nice. Looks like you’re on a 3V roll. Lookin’ forward to pics too, hehe.

Yeah, the only issue I have wil Secure-Ex is the blade dulling. It has good feel, goof retention, nice "click" to it and good design, but I'd rather trade some of these for it not to dull my blade.

If there was interior without glass or other versions like kydex or leather - I would without a doubt pay more for them just so I don't have to deal with this issue.
