I think you did well. I should've picked stag instead.

This buffalo horn has issues, I think it shrinks/expands, not sure why exactly but a tiny gap suddenly appeared between it & the tang some time ago.

Also there's a gap (seen from behind) between the guard & the handle, but that's a F&F issue not the material.
