i agree with most of what you've said. i am not one of those who walks around thinking i can neutralize any threat with any weapon. and i would not brag about being intimidating (not sure who that was directed at), but to answer your question - YES, i would very likely use an edged weapon against a knife weilding crack head. i will almost always opt for some type of contact weapon (over a firearm) if the situation affords me that opportunity. i simply do not like discharging firearms in public places. anybody who's had to do so knows how un-nerving it can be. there are misses, there's over penetration, there's alot of bad things that can go wrong. i prefer weapons that completely stay within my control.

I think I can understand your meaning. My perspective is very different. In New Zealand a gun is never an option. No one can carry a gun.. It happens that Criminals will have a gun, and in that occasional time people get hurt. The police to not carry sidearms, but have access to guns in times of need.

In New Zealand, a knife or bat weilding loonatic is the most likely type of encounter someone will face. When walking, I take a walking stick with me. A walking stick, especially a modern hiking one with a sharp Carbide tip is a lethal fast weapon for defence. Especially with Kendo, or fencing training that allows you the quick response times needed..

Recently in New Zealand, an exact occurrance happened as you speak, and a police officer fired a weapon and it missed the target going through a car window and shot a ByStander.. The Guns were a last resort of the man having a shotgun and people could have died.

Anyway.. I just wanted to put some different perspective into this thread...

Those photo's of Mr Universe just crack me up.. (AND I DON'T MEAN to ATTENTION LoL )

I'd never use a knife for defence.. given the option.. I will use a telescoping baton or walking stick.. I don't need to goto prison for manslaughter.

is that...

is that an automatic?

I think you just blew my mind.

No sir... it is not an automatic; strictly manual. The lever operates the 'opening' and 'closing' of the blade. The blade locks in 'open' and 'closed' positions.

I still don't understand what this thread is doing in the general discussion forum.

We have probably 3 other forums I can think of it would be better suited in, and all of them are in Community.

Without reading this thread in its entirety, I will go ahead and say I prefer a fixed blade for all applications.

both have their uses and places in the world... overall, you can't beat a fixed blade, convenience and sheeple usually push people towards a folder, there are numerous folders that are almost as strong as a fixed and many fixed almost as small as a folder... pick one recommended, there won't be any duds, and try it out.... what's the worst that can happen, you get a knife you don't fall in love with but you use it as a hard wear or give it to somebody else to use or even sell it

lol. For some reason a Right Said Fred song popped in my head suddenly. Couldn't tell you why.

But take this with a grain of salt. I'm no ex-SAS self-defense guru, and I've never gone on a "chav"-stabbing spree. I'm an American. We're a peaceful people. :D

Are you blind ?? I am too sexy for my shirt :D

Had to laugh at the last bit !! (peaceful, LOLOLOLOLzzzzzzzzzzzzz)

And you do realize that Aquatec T-Rex of yours is a dive knife, right? Thats an excellent choice.

I don't know how many times I've gotten in knife fights underwater.

It also works on land &, ironically, in the air (planes) :foot:

Argumentum ad Hominem (abusive & circumstantial) the fallacy of attacking the character or circumstances of an individual who is advancing a statement or an argument instead of trying to disprove the truth of the statement or the soundness of the argument. Often the argument is characterized simply as a personal attack, instead of logical counter debte.

1. The personal attack is also often termed an "ad personem argument": the statement or argument at issue is dropped from consideration or is ignored, and the locutor's character or circumstances are used to influence opinion.

2. The fallacy draws its appeal from the technique of "getting personal." The assumption is that the audience will be distracted from the original point by the insults of a spanner of primo grade sucj as has been seen here - HO-HUM !!

Why don't you ask you SAS buddy, Indy (Sikh) who was in the Para's (UK) for over 5 years. You two could (talk) about knives as tools (and killing) and maybe tell him where you put your pants so he could help find them (or take more pictures).

One more thing, it looks like you're vicariously reliving your friends experience as a warrior, even going as far as to claim being a warrior yourself through blood lines. That's weird dude.

Good for your buddy. But if you want the warrior title, sack up and join or sit down and let him finish his stories at the bar. He earned them.

My goodness, Pillowtalk...haven't you gotten your panties bunched!

If you want a knife recommendation...I say fixed blade...The Spec Gov Tac Dark Mil Overcompensator 2000.

Its black, and has lots of pointy things sticking out of it, plus lots of writing on the blade.

Sounds perfect for you.

In the mean time, relax, yell upstairs to your mum, and have her microwave some HotPockets for you.

Indy just called and said he doesn't know this guy.

When you want to talk about fixed - vs - folder (for self-defense) just let me know.

But if you just want to flame all day  A MORONIC MENTALITY - OFTEN SPEWS MORONIC CONTENT (wow - who'da thunk of it ??).

Admin feel free to move this topic if it suits...........

PT - SAIDA.

I'm pretty sure the "intimidating physique" comment was directed at PillowTalk, zero.

He made a point of linking to pictures of his physique earlier in the thread.

To make a valid point, me thinks (in response to another post, it's all about context :D)

You still on the Ad-Hom trip ?? dude take a 10 mg Valium, FFS !!

Point in case..........
I am fit/strong & will NOT run away (there context, you see how it works now, or you want me to run through it again ??)

They are effective.

Showing a picture of your physique and telling how it intimidates is childish.

This is the stuff that gives ammo to lawmakers and burns out the ones who know how to play the game.

Cut the crap.

I'll go fixed blade.:D

Each to their own.
You think it childish - hahahaha - when the $ collapses (Fiat currency that it is) & your society crumbles around your ears.
Roving gangs, corrupt Police, Blackwater in your town rounding people up for their own safety (FEMA agenda).
We will talk again.................

I lift weights (have done for years) & I like to know that I can handle my-self.

You may have a thing for watching your wife get rapped (add infinite, situations, based of that violent theme) I DO NOT !!

Enough of this garbage on both sides.

One of these days folks might actually listen when they are warned in a thread to straighten out, but it did not happen here so infractions were issued.

Pillowtalk.

You are welcome to post the question in a more appropriate forum here.
