Fixed Blade to keep in my car trunk

I've no problem with the Glock knife for this role, I've never owned one but reading the description it makes sense. But the OP said he wants stainless for a trunk knife, and based on where I live, I get that and agree with him that stainless is a good attribute for a trunk knife in a very humid climate. These Glock field knives are all carbon steel, aren't they?

I live in Illinois and it gets stupid humid and hot in the summer, and extremely cold in the winter. I need gear that will handle the climate year round.

Yup I've lived in Illinois too in the past (Vernon Hills) and elsewhere in the midwest, so I hear ya. Stainless, for a trunk knife.

Oh hey wait a minute. I just realized.

How about a Buck Mesa?

Way below budget, Buck's 420hc is awesome, fits your preferred blade length, and you get the micarta scales you want.

This actually checks off every one of your boxes and is made in USA and way below budget to boot. Win/win all around.
I was gonna throw that one out there but couldn't find it on the buck website to confirm that they still make it.

Might be something to figure out on the Buck subforum. I don't recall it ever being on Bucks website. I believe it's a Wally world exclusive, so one would have to go to the store.

I've carried a Buck 119 in my car for years. They're big, 6" blade, cheap around $50 or $60, durable you can beat the heck out of the them because they hold up well to abuse (I know because this is my 3rd one and by the way the pommel makes a decent emergency hammer), the 420HC steel with Bucks legendary heat treat is more than adequate for a beater, you can literally sharpen them on a rock you pick up off the ground and if you lose or break it no big deal. By the way what's a thread without a few pics. Just my two cents good luck in picking out a car knife.

I keep an Infi RDM in the trunk and that Arvensis is very close in a good easy to maintain stainless. And Sibert designs are freaking sweet! so yea i vote that!

This looks really awesome. The only problem is I'm not sure where to get a non-leather sheath with it. Looks like Walmart? But the walmart page says it comes with a leather sheath. I need a reliable way to store it.

Walmart often has the buck 119 with the nylon sheaths, but I guess it just depends.
I couldn't find them online or in the buck website so I think it's a Walmart exclusive. The sheath isn't even on the buck website.

Since the knife is well under your budget though you could get an inexpensive generic nylon sheath with plastic insert for 10$ online.

I have handled the Mesa (or a Mesa clone, from Buck). It seems to be a decent knife for the money. Buck offers many knives that are all based on the same basic design as the Mesa and they have different sheaths. I don't think it would be that hard to find one in nylon or plastic.

The knife I handled appeared to be the Mesa with a plastic sheath. At $30 dollars it was a steal. Wish I had bought when I had the chance.:(

That's almost the price of the knife itself and isn't necessary for a leave in the trunk knife.
Besides the more he puts into the knife, the more he may like it and might not be able to leave it in there.
I'm just saying this probably isn't the ideal sheath option.

Yeah that is exactly my problem.. I'm going to see if my local walmart has the nylon sheath versions. If not I might just go with the Seal Pup

I recommend an axe/hatchet, a few years ago I was heading home from work late one night and the apocalypse happened, and trees were down everywhere. There was one tree blocking my path and then it would have been a clear shot home. All of my tools were at work and as a result what should have been a five minute drive became a five hour nightmare and all because I didn't have a good axe.

You won't regret the seal pup if that's what you chose, especially for $35.
Btw they're definitely a full hidden tang in case you're wondering.

I'd go with Seal Pup to START with, or better yet, the Gerber I recommended. Sheath cost is built in. I recommended that sheath for Buck because you were looking for a non-leather option, there you go.

Think I'm done trying to be helpful in this thread.

The Seal Pup should work nicely. The Seal Pup Elite has a plastic/kydex sheath. I assume the Seal Pup does too.
Maximus, I understand how you feel about being helpful. ;) In the past I have recommended what I thought was the perfect knife only to have the OP choose another. No big thing however. I don't concern myself with such feelings now.
